Scratched spokes from wrench
Super anal question, but here goes.
I've always used a single size Park spoke wrench, that didn't quite fit right on my nipples. On my black nipples, the little bit of slop would scratch them, and I'd have to touch everything up with Sharpie when I was done building my wheels.
So for my most recent wheel build, I bought a multi sized Park spoke wrench so I could always have the right size wrench for any of my spokes.
Problem is, the new multi sized wrench is all metal, and doesn't have a rubber coating around where it contacts the spoke. On my black spokes, it left a few small scratches on nearly every spoke. I touched everything up with Sharpie, and you would never tell.
BUT, can these scratches lead to wheel failure? I can feel them with a finger nail, but from just a spoke wrench going around, I can't imagine they're very deep.
Like I said, my dumb ass did this to almost every spoke on the wheel (36h), and I really don't want to have to pay for all new spokes and relace the wheel.

It would take a significant gouge, like when the chain overshifts into the wheel, to make a mechanical difference. The cosmetic removal of the plating or paint wouldn't matter at all. (except to the cosmetically obsessive)

Well, I do tend to be cosmetically obsessive.
I guess I should be in the clear then. Where I could feel the scratches with my finger nail, I wasn't sure if that was deep enough to make a 'mechanical' difference or not. Cosmetically, like I said, I sharpied them and you can't tell.
