No need to add drops, there's a section for flatbar gravel grinders too:

If you hang around here for any length of time you'll find that there's no general purpose, perfect gravel grinder. We're all individually doing what makes sense for the non-paved roads we ride in our part of world. If that bike works for you on the non-paved roads you ride, then you "qualify", whatever that means

I converted an old Miele MTB I'd repainted to a 24 gears drop bar logging/mining road touring bicycle.

It's very versatile and can mount anything from 26" x 1.25" slicks to 26" x 2.25" knobby tires with fenders. I've done some winter touring with it too.

I made some changes and updates to my gravel grinder: vintage 1988 Schwinn Project KOM-10.
It now has dynamo head and taillights, and 9 speeds, and I had the frame blasted and clear-coated.
Compare to this time last year, post #239 in this tread.
I'm a big fan of the Schwalbe Super Moto tire for gravel; I'm going to order another and see if it will squeeze into the U-brake in back.

I've put a few hundred mixed surface miles on it and so far it's great. It's funny, it feels "heavy" but rides "light". Compared to my steel gravel bike I don't feel that the ride is too stiff. Seems like GT did their homework on the ride quality aspect of the alloy. I did quickly swap the 52/36 chainrings for a 46/36 and that was the right move for me.[/QUOTE]

I have two bikes that can be considered "gravel bikes." My first is a Redline Conquest Team Carbon. Even with CX tires, it's a sub 17 lb rocket ship. It's rock solid off road and in CX racing, but is still just as fast as my road bike on the road and even in the Cat 3 races I participate in (with road tires). The only reason I keep my road bike around is... I don't even know, maybe because it has Di2? Hell, I should transfer the Di2 to the Redline and sell the roadie.
My second gravel bike is a weird drop bar vintage MTB conversion that I use for commuting and for screwing around. It will also serve as my touring bike when I have time to try loaded touring. It's an old 1993 Specialized Rockhopper that I put drop bars and bar-end shifters on. At 24-25 lbs, it's actually a lot faster than you'd think, and being a mountain bike at heart it feels indestructible and is great for rougher gravel and light singletrack.

Here's my pride and joy, a 2014 Redline Conquest Team Carbon. It's a near perfect bike, and I've named her Scarlett. It's 16.5 lbs and is an actual living example of the "laterally stiff but vertically compliant" marketing cliche, so not only does it work excellently for CX racing and gravel grinding but is also just as fast as my road bike when it's fitted with skinny tires. Hell, I'd even be comfortable racing a crit on it. It's my number one bike that gets the lion's share of my riding time.
Another wonderful thing about this Redline is how future-proof it is. Not only does it come with disc mounts, it also comes with interchangeable rear dropouts to accept either 130mm or 135mm spacing. It also comes drilled for Di2. So if I ever decide to upgrade to disc brakes and electronic shifting in the future, I'm covered.
Also, pardon the mismatched crankarms. The non-drive side is black because it's my Stages power meter.

New 6800 drivetrain and bars from pbk but an otherwise partsbin build.
When first built with 25mm open corsas:
Today. Swapped the -10* 130mm stem for a 0* 120mm and put some 40mm tires I had for a test fit (they fit):

Thinking of springing for the 38mm grand Boris tires from compass, anyone have experience with those?

Here's the 2015 version of the Kona Dew Drop, changes since 2014 include:
Brooks B-17 saddle - Great addition!
Bottle cages on the fork - No water stops needed, in fact I shared water with another rider
Larger Minnehaha saddle bag - Plenty of room and no need for a bag on my back
35mm Clement X'PLOR tires - maybe my favorite upgrade, better grip, lower pressure
Rear blade fender - still ended up with gravel in my shorts, but nothing like last year
