That's full winter mode for me here in SoCal, down to near freezing. Depending on temp, it could be regular full-finger work gloves, or biga$$ ski gloves.

In summer, the long-sleeve midlayer and the gloves go away, and maybe even the pullover, dropping to 8
80+ degrees here yesterday afternoon, this morning was still warm, I was down to 8. I guess I could get lower if I replaced shorts, underwear, and shirt with a trisuit, that would make 6. Sockless shoes and no helmet would make I guess bare minimum of 3? Barefoot 1? Trade the trisuit in for a speedo, down to 1/2?

A windy/sunny 0f/-18C the last 1/2hr of the ride, 17:
1 helmet, 1 balaclava, 1 base layer top, 1 jacket, 2 thin and thick long johns, 1 pants, 2 socks, 2 mukluks, 4 glove liners and mittens, 2 boxers.

Should have removed the thin long johns though as it was a little bit too warm down there

I wore:

Sports bra
Chonies
Leggings
Socks
Shoes
Long sleeve shirt
Gloves
Helmet
Sun shield
Sunglasses
Big scarf thing to cover my butt, because the leggings are probably a little bit threadbare at this point-and also, my butt is embarrassingly flat

Subtracted gloves, sun shield, and sunglasses for the ride home and added in a hoodie.

Let's see. This morning was 28, with a 22 wind chill. I wore...

Two pairs of socks (4)
Shoes (2)
Thermal athletic pants (1)
Fleece lined leggings (1)
Undies (1)
Sports bra (1)
Camisole (1)
Long sleeved thermal shirt (1)
Hoodie (1)
Fleece lined rain coat (1)
Glasses (1)
Gloves (2)
Helmet (1)

18 items!

About half way, I really regretted not grabbing a scarf or my face-mask. My lungs haven't yet forgiven me.

Hiking boots w/socks. MUSA bicycling pants. It was right at 40 degrees and supposed to be warmer this afternoon, so I carried shorts for the ride home. An old marathon long sleeved t-shirt under a hi-viz w/reflective stripes long sleeved T shirt, and cheap ski gloves. A do-rag under my helmet. Underpants.

Weather: 31F, Calm Wind, Clear Skies
Ride: 5.1 miles, 23-ish minutes (Maybe longer, the City changed timing on some traffic signals and I don't check the time these days)
Articles of clothing: 22

2 Specialized Mountain Bike Shoes (Lace up shoes with SPD cleats)
2 Wool Socks
1 Cotton Boxers
1 Poly long underwear (bottoms)
1 Pants (REI "Mistral")
2 Leg cuff straps (Shoot, forgot about those for the vote: That's two more articles of clothing.)
1 Short sleeve tee shirt
1 Long sleeve tee shirt
1 Short sleeve jersey
1 Louis Garneau jacket
1 REI Windbreaker
2 Wool liner gloves
2 Windproof gloves
1 "Zub" (neck gaiter)
1 Windproof head cover
1 Helmet
1 Glasses

Good thing is the day will be cool enough for the ride home that I can wear all that stuff and not get too hot. I don't like the days when I have to wear a lot of stuff in during the morning ride, but need only shorts and a tee shirt for the afternoon ride. My panniers get overstuffed really quickly! HA!

I forgot to count my gloves (but did remember to wear them) and that would change my answer to the 11 - 14 category.
