Just Acquired: 1983? Cambio Rino

I'm excited about this one. You know the feeling when your initial plan is to flip the bike, then you see it and suddenly look around for more wall space?! randyjawa did you own this model?

I've never seen a Cambio Rino of this low an apparent grade. The top tube uses cable stops as opposed to tunnels. There are no brazed-on shift lever bosses or water bosses. About the only good feature is the forged dropout with integral hanger. Also, I haven't seen any Cambio Rino with Japanese components, let alone lower grade models. Still, it could have been entire rebuilt as the 27" wheels look inappropriate in the rear triangle and the pads are high in the caliper slots. Fork clearance and rake is typical of an entry level, recreational touring model. That fork crown was seen on a lot of Japanese bicycles. What size seat post does it use? What is the brand of rear dropouts?

I have run across an entry lever Cambio Rino, or two, over the years. Can't recall what I did with them. Might have donated both to B4H...

I laughed out loud when I read your replies Here I was all excited and, thanks to the team of experts here (T-Mar and Randy) I was brought right back down to earth. I expect this is an off traveled journey for a newb bike collector. Thanks to you both for the dose of reality

I'd still like to try to gain a little more insight into the entry level Cambio Rino. Randy's blue bicycle also has an Altus rear deralleur and both his bicycles have the Altus Selecta crankset. Consequently, I'd still appreciate the dropout manufacturer and serai lnumber, to try and determine if Cambio Rino Canada was having these entry level models contract manufactured in Japan.

I can't help with serial numbers, as both of the Rinos are gone to new homes, and long ago. Here are a couple of pictures of each bike's rear drops and I hope they are a help...

Here's a photo of the serial number. Hope it helps. I don't see any markings on the drop outs.

The serial number format is consistent with Fairly of Taiwan and, if so, indicates that the frame was manufactured in March,1980. That's certainly within the production range for the Altus rear derailleur. Thxs for posting.
