There is no doubt but the steel road bikes of the late 80s were the most beautiful bikes ever. Their great lugs, and down tube shifters made them fantastically beautiful. The were totally clean with only the brake cables in the wind.

Based only on looks, which TYPE of bike looks the most awesome? If you take the best looking bike of any given category, which makes your drool the most?
I know some have one of each of these types of bike, while others have only one, but regardless of whether you would actually ever ride one, which type of bike makes you wish for unlimited funds?
I also know I could have been more specific in the categories, but this will get us started.
Have fun!
Edit..could not make the poll work, but here are the choices I came Up with:
-Full-Suspension Mountain bike
-Hard-tail/29er
-Hybrid/city Bike
-Cyclocross/Gravel Bike
-Pure Road Bike
-TT/triathalon bike.

Not on your poll but I'd drool over a racing 'bent that I could add a velo cover to.
From your list though, I choose pure road bike as the most attractive.

aww, a late 80s road bike made in Japan that was mid-tier or better is absolutely beautiful. The artistry wasnt on the level of 1off frame builders, obviously, but the quality was second to none, the paint schemes had become creative, and the relatively small contract build companies are neat to read about 30+ years later. Bikes were all 6/7 speed at most and pretty much everything but DA was mix-n-match within brands. Lugged frames were still the dominant style, with each brand having an aluminum frame and carbon frame offering. Doesnt seem like that is 'losing its mind', but perhaps I am mis-reading that part of the comment.

If we're speaking solely of looks, then I dislike any bicycle with a low top tube, but am also not particularly fond of most bikes with completely horizontal top tube either (even less so if it's sloping upwards). Also, fenders ruin the looks of any bike (but definitely are practical). All other things vary from bike to bike, look good on some while not so much on others.

I'm going to go with dropbar rigid 26er mods and the more rugged end of the CX/gravel category (Cutthroat et al). Those are the hot bikes to my eye.
