Pedego anyone?
We once rented a couple Pedego cruisers a year ago, and my wife and I were able to scale the giant hills in Marin County with absolute ease. I believe it was the Interceptor (comfy layed-back cruiser type) model. Is there anything different about Pedego hubs than Bafang? They are 48V 500W and the Bafang 48-500 lacks in comparison.
I keep reading that hub motors won't climb well , yada, yada... I believe this to be true on some hubs but not all.
Thoughts...

If you want to ride Bay Area hills, I would recommend a mid drive. While hubs can carry you up those hills (good ones) they also can overheat. Mid drives excel at climbing. https://www.pedegoelectricbikes.com/...drive-edition/

RW: theoretically motors are rated by the wattage they can produce consistently. However, as you've seen, probably it's more marketing than science. In some instances it appears as though manufacturers slap a 500w sticker on one motor, then a 1000w one on a similar one. I have a 1000w motor with a 30 amp controller and 52V battery. What's the power 1000w, or 1560w (30a X 52V)? BTW, a couple of years ago the local Pedego dealer loaned some friends and me his rear hub offerings and took us off road. As you indicated, they screamed through the trails and ate hills.

I would look at Mid Drive bikes. Pedego doesn't have the monopoly on ebikes. They're a lot of great ebikes out there that cost less. Good luck on your search.
