Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

looking for small pump capable of 100+ psi

Do they exist? I need something portable that is capable of inflating a 700x23 road tire with (relatively) little time and effort. I had been looking at a Blackburn Frame Pump but decided that I wanted something a little more discreet that could be mounted alongside my bottle cages on the downtube or seat tube. The other Blackburn pump that my LBS has in stock is the Air Stik, but I'd like to hear what kinds of experiences you guys have had with these.

I have the previous model of the Blackburn Air Stick and run it on all four of my road bikes. It's light, mounts behind the bottle cage, but it will take you about 5 minutes to get your tire above 100 psi when you fix a flat. I'm very satisfied with my Blackburn pumps.

I think either one of the Crank Bros. pumps will do that...

Topeak pocket master blaster. REI notes max to be 110 PSI. I'm thinking mine may get a little higher. It takes a goodly bit of time, and reasonable arm strength to pump up all the way. Fits niceley in a jersey pocket, as well as a handle bar bag, or my jumbo Jandd seatbag. Doesn't weigh much. I take it road riding, touring, commuting and for Brevet's.

Don't run red lights, wear a helmet, use hand signals, get some cycle lights(front and rear) and, FFS, don't run red lights!

The Topeak Road Morph will get there, don't know if it's small enough though. I carry one on the downtube next to a waterbottle cage.

Second the road morph. Transforms into a more of a conventional upright pump so there's little chance of breaking the valve stem. Good to 160 lbs and makes pumping up a tire an easy operation (compared to come of the compact style pumps).

To minimize "time and effort" when fixing a flat - CO2.

Alright, for those who are advocating the CO2 option, are those things compatible with cheap CO2 carts that can be bought at Walmart or do they need specific ones? Bike shops are charing $2-3 per cartridge and I don't really want to have to deal with that on a constant basis.

Yes...most of the CO2 inflators can use the cheap "pellet gun" non-threaded cartridges, available in quantity at Walmart. I buy a box of 25 ("Copperhead" brand), once every year or two for around $16 or so.

Look at the Specialized PVO Mini. It is all aluminum, reaches 160psi and is short enough to fit inside a large water bottle. List $20. PVO = Presta Valve Only. I put this pump, tools, spare tube, patch kit, money, ID, in a large water bottle and swap into my second cage for short rides.

my wrench force mini will get over 100psi, but if you want to get there you better have some arm muscle.
