Salsa Marrakesh experience/opinions?
Found one locally and after strongly considering Mountain Bikes, I'm coming to the conclusion that I may in fact need something more 'tourey'. I'm 55 and weigh 220, 5'10" with wide shoulders. Main use will be on a paved, 35 miles Greenway and while I would love to do some real mountain biking (we have LOTS of great trails in NWA), I doubt I'll do much of it. Still.....
Considering the above, go with the Marrakesh for a great price at $700 or spend a bit more for a mountain bike and perhaps some more street-worthy tires and extra rims? Dilemma....thanks!

get the bike for it's purpose of surface, at 700, it's almost half price. ONLY a good if it fits you.
Get a real MTB later when you get into wanting to riding on bumpy trails more. That Marra should be able to handle most fire/gravel roads to slick pavements.

I picked up a Marakesh early this summer, and I really like it. I do lot of bike paths, but on this bike I have also started hitting more crushed limestone paths, gravel roads and 2 tracks. Even did a stretch of a hiking trail (sorta by accident) in the U.P. I think it a great bike, super stout, very stable, excellent for a bigger guy (i'm 5'11', 235). I also sorta like that you don't see a million of them around.
Only down side is it a bit heavy, but comparable to a LHT or other touring bike of the same class. $700 is a helluva price.

40's are the sweet spot, almost one tire from every brand is in a 40-42 range. WTB has a 46 I think
pending frame clearance, maybe some 29x2.0" will fit

Bought it! Tires are too good to change out just yet, not sure if I'll take the fenders off or not. Going to ride it for awhile and see what hits me. Thanks for the info everyone, it's a great, great bike!

Fenders will spoil you! They do a great job keeping crud out of your driveline and say goodbye to the skunk tail.
Very nice bike!

We were to ride in the ‘Square to Square’ ride from Bentonville to Fayetteville AR but it was cancelled due to weather. My Wife and I decided to give it a go in spite of the cancellation and it turned out great; it was the longest ride ever for the both of us at 32 miles. My previous best was last week at 22 miles and before that, about 12 miles. Love, love, love the Marrakesh. My only beef with the bike is that there are too many opportunities to strap something to it! I keep wanting to carry the kitchen sink.....’I don’t know Honey, we may need this can opener’.
