'72 Miyata Racer
I have an emotional attachment to this bike, I need a reality check on market value (SF Bay Area). I commuted for a few years on this bike, very durable.
(1972?) 58cm/56cm Miyata Racer, 10 speed, mostly original but with high pressure (27") MK13 rims laced to the original wheelsets, hi-ten, Shimano 333 drivetrain, Dura-Ace brakes, Continental Gatorskins, Powergrips, nice ESI tape on top, SOMA track grips bottom, Pletscher rack, Bianchi Gel saddle.
What do you think?

What do I think? I think it is a very nice ride. Although no svelte steed, I bet it rides great and is/was a dependable commuter. In St. Louis you probably wouldn't get much for it but in your market it will fetch a decent amount. How about $200.00 as a starting point and see where it goes from there?

Boom era, entry level model with hi-tensile frame, stem shift levers, steel cottered crankset, and Lark/Thunder Bird derailleur pairing. It's in nice condition but I think $200 would be hard pressed, despite the rim upgrade and Dura-Ace centre-pull calipers, which are not uncommon. Serial number will tell us the year of manufacture.

That's a very handsome bike and, would make a nice City Bike with an upright handlebar conversion. With upright handlebars, new grips, brake levers and, thumb shifters you might snag $200 - $250. As-is maybe $150 tops. Be good. Have fun.

I agree with T-Mar, I think $200 will be a hard sell. Maybe $125.
I also think the idea to get more money by turning it into an upright bike is borderline nuts. That would probably make it worth even less, IMO.

T-Mar, yeah you id-ed it years ago as a '72.
I have it listed locally for $199. Bike prices are somewhat nutty, the quality and utility of the bike is so much stronger - heck I've done centuries on that bike. But market reality is what it is, just can't help thinking that bike will still be a great rider after many $500 bikes are in a landfill.
As I suspected, it's probably worth no more than what someone will pay for it...
