US Amateur Nationals

I attended the US National's criterium race in Hagerstown MD. I thought it might include pros but later learned the pro championships were the next week in Knoxville TN. Anyway it was an exciting race with the whole pack skillfully navigating the tight course. Winner Justin Williams (California) was very impressive, covering the breaks mid-race & won final sprint by a wide margin. Not so many spectators, most were friends/relatives of racers plus some locals enjoying the spectacle.

Anyone go to Knoxville for the pro championships? For me the 15 hr round-trip drive was a bit too much. Was pretty cool back when Philly hosted the pro road race championships: strong int'l fields & huge enthusiastic crowds like we'll probably never see again in the USA.

I went to Knoxville for the races and had a great time. I even got to hang out and talk with this guy for a while on two different days. A genuinely nice man.

Very cool! Greg is looking good I must say. BTW while I've never been to Knoxville, on the map it looks like it might be a good cycling city...plenty of nearby hills for climbing!

Awesome! The US national track races have been live on youtube all week too, super fun to watch. Man some of those kids have crazy skills.
the women's scratch race last night was a blast to watch. The men's was good too but those ladies were flying!!

It was fun to wat the 11-12 year age group too, some of those kids had good habits on the bike. I would hate to try to keep up with some of them even if they are only doing 8-12 laps.

The fast races are the U23 men, junior men then Cat 1 in that order.

U23 are 30% pros. Cat 1s are by rules are not. Juniors may be or will be,

Got to meet the Paracyclists and ride with them on training runs in Oak Ridge, TN. Many who were Facebook friends I have met the first time in person, Really enjoyed that, and still grinning meeting the people who gave me the courage to get back on a bike and ride again. I had a blast.

I love Greg. He also volunteers with an adaptive sports organization I participate in. He's fun, interesting, and has interesting experiences to share. And a gentleman who is generous with his time and talents. I climb with him, and he sometimes belays me. Knoxville and Oak Ridge, TN are superb places for cyclists. And have been for years.

Very nice, I hadn't heard about his move to Tennessee. His new company sounds interesting. I've thought about a bike-camping tour in NC/TN but I'd need to do some serious training first.
