12 hour race, anyone do them?
Was asked by a local riding group if I would be interested in joining a four man team for a few 12 hour races coming up in the next few months. Do any of you guys do these 12 hour races, I know about the 24 hour races, but Im interested in hearing about the format and if its fun. thanks

I did a 12 hour race last august in a 2 man team. With us it worked out to 2 laps each so about an hour and half break for me and an hour for my partner. I'm assuming with a 4 man team it'd be a lot more fun since you'd only have 3 hours to ride total and a lot more time to screw around.
BTW it is fun, just make sure you have a good set of lights

Heh heh. I consider it more fun to have fewer people and more riding time. I haven't done one yet, but i'm thinking about doing a solo 12-hour later in the year.

24 Hour Races rule...12 Hour shouldn't be that much different.
If you do it for fun or competition - either way they're fantastic.

I guess I would prefer more riding, maybe I should look into a two man team. Dont think I would need lights if it starts in the morning and ends around 8pm.

I've done 2 -24 hour races. One was a 5 person co-ed team we got 16/32 the other was a 4 person male team we got 9/35.
I’ve also done 2-12 hour races don’t remember the results cuz we were doing it just for fun.
I'm currently racing a regular Xc series, sport but i'm training for several 12 and 24 races of which i'm am going solo! Less then 1 month to go for my first. Later in the year I’m planning on doing a 100 mile race that will have 15,000 feet of climbing which is major because here in Houston, TX the average elevation it only 35 feet above sea level.
Our 12 hour races are the same format as the 24. The only real difference is you. instead of have to "save" yourself for X2 the amount of laps you can go out harder and not worry about having to 12 extra hours of laps
Good luck

a few friends of mine competed in a 24hr race last fall, I imagine that a 12hr would not be much different... I haven't been to one myself, but as I understand it a lot of people just do it for fun
... although my friends raced in the single speed division

I did my second 12-hour race in Feb. It was a lot of fun. Although, the first was better, the second one was still a lot of fun.
We were NOT competitive, but planned to have a good time. Weather sucked, but that's part of the fun as well!

I've looked around but can only find a race that was done there in March. Got any more info on the one you mentioned?
I'm doing a 2-man 24-hour at the end of May, but a solo 12-hour might just be a good warm-up
