Neither, they're too far away from me .. For Geography Fans,
Roubaix is a Town In Northern France Roubaix - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.. On the Belgian Border
its the end of a bike race held every spring since 1896 Roubaix :: office de tourisme & Paris-Roubaix 2015 except during the 2 World Wars
when It was One of the Battle Grounds ..
Common farm Commerce Route . before the bitumen pavement took over roads of stones were how it was Done (like the Roman's built roads)
I was in the Area in 1991, but it was summer..

I've heard horror stories about the Hilly Billy from when I was living in WV. Having said that I would like to ride it someday, once I get a bike capable of that.

I am annoyed at the over use of Roubaix. It is not a type of race, as mentioned above it is a city!!!
However I am signed up for Road-Apple Roubaix, Amish Country Roubaix and Funk Bottoms Gravel.
The Hilly Billy looks like it could be more MTB than gravel road. Maybe???

the Road Apple should be a good ride. going to miss it due to a volleyball tourney.
Craig, which ride are you doing in the Funk Gravel, the 100 or 200?

This is my first year doing gravel grinders and I don't think I will be up to 200k, especially on a single speed.
Road Apple will be very flat compared to the others but who knows what weather conditions will be. I am leaving open the possibility of riding my fatbike for that one.

The question is moot. The word "Roubaix" has come to mean "gravel ride of some sort" in the minds of literally all recreational cyclists. And, of course, by "literally" I mean "not literally". Language is always in the process of making itself obsolete.

Fair enough, still, "Roubaix" meaning "gravel" is like "Alaska" meaning hot and dry. There's no gravel between Paris and Roubaix. But I guess that's partly the difference between cycling slang in the States vs somebody from Europe.
What you call "Roubaix" is actually "Strade Bianche", the Italian gravel spring race...
This is "Roubaix", the cobblestones...

Yeah, we're kind of idiots here. Pretty soon we can probably expect Phil and Paul to spend as much time explaining why there's no gravel in Paris-Roubaix as they do explaining how drafting works.

Nope, that would be way to expensive. If I want gravel here in Europe I have various options. But I love the cobblestones of the Carrefour de l'Arbre, Mons-en-Pévèle, Trouée d'Arenberg and Camphin-en-Pévèle. Ever done the full 257 km to feel great on the Velodrome?

I did the Salem Gravel Grinder on Sunday, affectionately known locally as "Oregon's Perry Roubaix" (because it goes through a place named Perrydale). It's not a race and really not even quite an organized ride. One member of the local community just put up a website, mapped a route, negotiated with a local golf course to let a bunch of people park at their clubhouse and sent out invitations.
It was a pretty fun ride -- great people, nice scenery and a whole lot of gravel roads -- pretty much 50 miles of this:

Cobbled roads are marvelously drained because of their High crown and the dirt in between them.
the basalt cobbles really dont wear out, and you simply re set the stones when they get too off angleTurned
Motor traffic does that.
The Classic Race ends At it's Concrete Velodrome which is quite Smooth . the winner does a victory lap .
all others do a Lap around the track too , that is the full distance of the Race.
[ It was to promote the velodrome in the 1st Place]
In Flemish the pave' stones are called 'the heads of children'..
At least Specialized Bikes Gave up on the Idea that because they applied the name to a Bike Model they Owned It.
