This is a 1987 built Prologue I recently got locally. Full Dura Ace 7400 series build.

It was a funky mess when I brought it home. This is the first pic the night I brought it home



Cleaned up a bit:





And this is it with new levers, handlebars, and stem. Along with a fresh tape job with some red accents. I have swapped out the old rubber too. Otherwise it's all working just fine with only some cleaning and lubing being done to it.

My 1990 Le Tour (hope it's OK I squeeze this on in here), original brake and drivetrain systems. I'm in the process of switching out the pedals to clipless and getting a matching set of touring bags, but I took on a restoration of another bike so it might be a while. For now though it serves. I'll likely share when this all gets done.

My 1985 Schwinn Peloton. The thing was barely ridden when I got it - all original parts, even the headbadge still has it's protective plastic film! I had to replace the seat and rims though. But it came without the top tube logo - no idea why that was removed. I had a set created for me - the printer did them in die-cut vinyl, excellent work.

Some of you may not like this, but since the frame came to me with horrible paint, I wanted to use my favorite color combo. Let me know your thoughts.

@jamesdak finally decided to try those TRP retro levers. I had a pair of black and gum and decided on the vintage Voyageur build I'd try the gum ones. Kind of match the gumwall tires I guess. At first it seemed odd but it is really growing on me. I upgraded mainly because it would be easier to fit a handlebar bag with the cables under the wrap, and I needed a new wrap anyhow. I think it turned out ok, like I said at first I thought it was odd but now I really like it. In any case it is very much more functional and comfortable.

It's not 'late' but it is 80's, my '80 (or 81) Voyageur 11.8 hope it's ok to sneak in here...

i am so happy to be posting in this thread. I took a chance on this tempo and it might actually turn out. Lots of rust on the BB and fork. Still need to do a OA bath (any tips). Not sure what to do with it yet. I already have 2 geared bikes (trek 610 and Maruishi SR 5000). Might try a single speed. Light, fast, and simple.

For the build, I kept the Sakae CX crankset but changed out the rings to 26-34-46. Switched it to 700c with was maybe not the best choice because though I have unlimited tire selection and hyperglide cassette, it limited my brake choices. I bought a set of Avid Shorty 4's in hopes they would work but they didn't have the reach. So instead of buying a bunch of brakes I kept the originals (Dia Compe 981) but they're finicky (for me anyway) to set up. Also switched to a Tange 5330 stem, Nitto RM013 bars (I love these bars!) and Soma brake levers. Rounding out the drivetrain are Suntour bar-ends, Sram 11-32 cassette, original front derailleur and Tiagra 9 spd rear derailleur. Hopefully someday have a Thompson seatpost for my Brooks to sit on

I'm interested in going to a 650b conversion to increase the brake selection. I also have found there's some overlap in the gearing and find myself riding pretty comfortably (even while pulling my son in the trailer) only using the 46T but then again it's not terribly hilly here (PDX). Also could be fun to build some 27" wheels with a hyperglide hub. For now I'm just enjoying the ride! It's been a fun learning experience and the Voyageur rides so great, I'm looking forward to a lifetime of adventure with this frame.

It sounds like you've made some good choices there- I'm going to have to keep an eye out for those bars...the Dia Compe 981s are good brakes- if I didn't have the XC Pro brakes on my Voyageur SP, I'd be using the 981s. I don't think you're going to get 650B to work without either moving the canti studs or getting some long reach calipers and leave the studs sitting there, neither is a good option. You should be able to get some pretty beefy 700c tires in there. My 86 Voyageur was running some 27 x 1 3/8" tires when I had it, so I'm pretty sure you'd be good with 35s and fenders, or 38s without.

Good to hear I made some good choices! I have to say I was a bit overwhelmed with all the options when I first began. The bars are dirt drop style. Got mine off ebay for $50 and they're so comfortable especially in the drops. Can you tell I love these bars? I do like the simplicity of the 981s and once I got them adjusted right they're working fine. They seem bulletproof once dialed in, so I'll likely keep them at this point (500 miles). Didn't think about that with the 650b--but good to know. I guess if I build any wheels it'll be 27" or 700. And yes tire size was one reason I was drawn to the Voyageur. I'm currently running 700x32 Continental Tourride tires with SKS fenders and there's plenty more room for a larger tire. When I move back to Missouri, I'll have a bike ready to tackle the gravel.

here is a terrible basement shot of my 1987 Tempo I snapped up off of CL for $150. Some paint chips, and the seat was stuck pretty good (thanks to everyone in BM for helping me out!) but otherwise was in excellent shape. Shimano 105 everything.

Added some new Michelin Pro 4 tires, an Ergon SR3 saddle (the original brown suede one was fine but looked kind of wonky on such a fast-looking bike), and new bar tape.

New pedals are on the way; I have all winter to work on it.

The little bit of riding I was able to do on it was excellent - light, smooth and swift.



PS- anyone know a good way to clean those brake hoods?

Simple green and elbow grease, just be careful if they are soft or cracking.

89 aluminum Schwinn 564. Found this on Ebay cheap, was going to make a winter bike but I think its too nice now that I have it. All in pieces now getting cleaned and serviced. Was at the local bike shop looking for an old bottom bracket to make a thread chaser and some consumables for my new bike. They ask if I was interested in an vintage road bike a customer wanted to sell. Ask what size? Owner goes to basement comes back with a vintage 87 Trek 560 EX it's my size ,531 main tubes, 600EX in better shape (other than the seat post) then 564 and cheaper. So now have two new bikes to play with a 564 and a 560. Some days it just rains nice bikes.
