Yakutsk, Russia just saw temperatures of -58F below 0. I would think that it doesn't get much worse than living or riding in conditions like that. Give me crappy roads, traffic, distracted drivers, but not that. Temperatures so low that thermometers broke? Hell no. Record low temperature there? -83F below 0. People live there. A couple hundred thousand crazy people live there.

LA is too broad of a statement... Parts of LA are excellent and have access to wonderful coastline and mountains.

Within the United States. LA would be a big improvement compared to anywhere in Florida.I would even prefer Kansas.

Here are other bad places according to some website:
https://www.welovecycling.com/wide/2...ities-cycling/
But I've read in a few places Florida is one of if not the most dangerous states for cyclists.

This is the 3rd year out of the past 4 years that I've wintered in Mt. Dora FL - around an hour north of Orlando. I love it - get to see Osprey, eagles, sand hill cranes, herons, ibis, on most rides. Very rural, with easy rolling hills. Also within an hour of 3 great paved trails ranging from over 50 miles to 92 miles round trip. It's a large state, so don't be too quick to criticize.

I've only ridden in Garden City. I was there for 4 days and only saw one other cyclist and got honked numerous times. I'm sure the gravel riding outside of the cities are great though.

Stats put cycling mortality rates in Florida to be the highest in the nation... by a long shot.
My guess is there are a lot of cyclists down there (good weather), a lot of drivers, and a lot of people stacked on top of each other. Perhaps also tourists (both cyclists and drivers that aren't familiar with the area).
However, if you've been hit that many time, post a summary under Advocacy & Safety, and perhaps someone will give a critique.
Often accidents involve actions by both parties, and a cyclist can ride defensively, and be safer despite the actions of others. Look, and communicate with other people on the road (placement on road, waves, etc). It just makes things go more smoothly.
You may have the right-of-way... but they're bigger.
