For personal repairs, I gashed a sidewall less than a mile into a ride. I turned around and the sealant almost got me back with no walking. Other than that, I didn't have a single road/trail side anything all year. A running stroller got a flat once, does that count?

My trunk pack is a mini bike shop. Among the many things I carry is a boot for gashes. I hate to walk home, and so far I never have.

It's been over 20 years but my grandson and I provided tech support for a big cross state ride.

As you might imagine, flat tires were far and away the #1 mechanical issue.
Broken spokes was, by a large margin, #2.
#3 surprised me - it was bottom bracket repairs and servicing. I did a couple of roadside hub overhauls too.

I replaced both shift cables for one fellow that were so seriously frayed they looked hairy where they exited the shifters. I asked him: "When you signed the form where it said your bike has been recently serviced, what did you think that meant?

I certainly had what I needed to fix it, on the trail, before my ride had even really started.

Seemed silly to pull everything out and mess with it when I could still ride back to my truck and fix it at home. Especially since my time to ride is limited and there were 3 other bikes in perfect condition in my garage.
