Options for steel frame with cablestops

I've been looking for a singlespeed frameset that is 1) steel, 2) has cablestops and 3) has 1 1/8 fork

can anyone think of some options that are not straight gauge hi-ten?

thanks for suggestions

Wabicycles are well loved around here. What's your price range?

I think Surly puts horizontal dropouts on some of their frames.

Wabi and Surly look nice, but i was hoping to find something with welded cablestops on the top tube instead of using clamp on guides.

There are, of course, vintage road frames with horizontal dropouts, but you'll likely have 1" forks.

An option would be to add a 1" threadless fork + 1 1/8" shims.

Depends on what you mean by singlespeed frame, because pretty much any frame can be built up as a singlespeed. Are you looking for something with track-style dropouts and 120mm spacing?

Yes exactly, horizontal dropouts and 120mm spacing. Most options i see like that don't have cablestops (wabi, soma, kilo tt, bianchi)

If you are dead set on cable stops you can have them brazed on, or braze them on yourself. You will need to have the frame painted after that. You could also call Wabi and find out what they would charge.

Yeah, it is kind of a rarity. Off the top of my head, there's the Dolan FXE: https://www.dolan-bikes.com/dolan-tr...eset-4113.html

edit - forgot you said steel. Womp womp.

I don't know if it would be my choice, but there are also pop rivet cable stops. Similar ones are in use on Carbon Fiber frames.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Slotted-Cab...n/191873878480

If you can find a semi-custom Manufacturer, you could likely spec things like rear cable stops as well as a drilled fork and rear brake bridge. Unfortunately the more "custom" you build, the more expensive things tend to be. Or simply jumping from assembly line to hand built.

I was thinking a US manufacture, but there may be some small Asian manufactures that would do the build, as well as European manufacturers.

For Asian, also consider built to spec Titanium builds.

Brazing on a cable stop should be an easy mod that could be done in a reasonably outfitted home shop.

The Kilo WT does have cable stops.

So does the original (non-disc) version of the All-City Nature Boy. You'd probably need to find one used at this point, though.

Also, I'm sure Gene Spicer would braze cable stops and whatever bosses you want onto a basic track frame for a reasonable price. ($499 starting price, and U.S. made, too)

^ That's a pretty cool frame. If my commuter ever gets run over by a truck and I'm still alive, I'd consider building up a frame like that with a Sturmey Archer S3X. Tire clearance and cable stops for days!

Doesn't the Kilo WT have cable guides under the top tube for the rear brake?

Really happy with it. Abundant braze-ons aside, it's been a very competent SSCX bike for me. No toe-overlap, quite good clearance while running 33's, and sure-footed. Geometry is very close to a Nature Boy.

Wow. I completely missed that.

The more I look at the WT, the more it seems like a great frame and fork for a commuter or grocery getter. Rack mounts all over the place. Mounts for fenders if you want them. Nice crown on the fork and seat post clamp.
