Nice job TT. Love this view.

I wonder why they are called "direct drive" is it because the shaft (axle?) and the crank arm are one piece?

Thanks ! Not really sure why they call them "direct drive", since functionally they are no different from a 3-piece square taper setup. Maybe it's some sort of problem when translating from Japanese.

My Austro Daimler that I Found on CL and redid the paint and decals from Cyclomodo. This was my first build and had fun searching for an old frame and fixing up myself. Originally the deep purple color. Wanted a bike that could get me from my house, on hard packed smooth gravel to pavement and back. Went with 700X32 Panaracer Gravelking and Velocity rims.

Brooks B17 narrow honey, Sram s300 crankset 48x16, Fyxation Pursuit Bars.

Old pedals till my Plemons Honey double strap and black toe cages arrive.

Also have a single half link coming in to be further into my drops with proper tension.

Sorry if I " murdered" a vintage bike but I love it!

Nice. I like the shape of sram hoods. Much better than the tektros I have. I really wish someone made brake levers with the campy hood shape tho.

The new drivetrain is soooo much smoother and quieter than the old one, and about 0.3 lbs lighter with 0.2 lbs of that coming from the crankset/BB and the remainder from the pedals. The finish on the cranks is first class and I protected the cranks by using pedal washers. The chainring bolts are alloy T30 and the nuts are steel serrated that come permanently pressed into the cranks so there's no need to hold them when tightening the bolts.

How do you like the Sugino 75DD?

A few new things, wound up getting 5800 cranks instead, stiffer than the 5600 cranks that they replaced

I'm liking it a lot. It's super round so chain tension is very uniform and very smooth and quiet. The finish is beautiful. Kinda pricey, but at least the bottom bracket is included.

Wish you could get it sans "Zen" branding on the chainring.

I agree. It does look a bit tacky IMO.

Just curious, is there something besides aesthetic preference that made you go with the DD75 instead of the Grand Mighty (and buying the BB and chainring separately)? I'm wondering about what sets apart cranksets when one gets into the high end options.

It was a combination of aesthetics and functionality. All my track cranksets have been traditional square taper, and I wanted to try a modern outboard bearing unit. I figured it would look good on a modern aluminum tube / carbon fork setup like my Bianchi Super Pista Concept with its oversized tubing. Also, I like black a lot more than silver on that bike, so a Grand Mighty would look out of place on it. In terms of quality it's the same level as the traditional Sugino 75, and far superior to a SRAM Omnium.

KMC 710SL and Cheapo eBay 18T cog, I swapped it for an all city stainless 17T this morning. That gold medal track cog is awesome, but too rich for my blood.

I also received the rest of the parts intended for this build yesterday, so I installed them this morning.
Nitto Pearl stem, dynamic seat post, Soma Hwy. 1, Caleido bar tape, and the aforementioned All city 17T cog.

Road drops are far more comfortable for the riding I do on this thing.

At first the top pic gives the allusion that you have some funky brake cable stuff going on above your handlebars. Then I realized it was just the pool ladder and immediately creamed my pants over how rad your bike is.
