woah the percentage has pretty much increased. That's why I add some acessories such as spoke led and reflectors for visibility and safety for my ride.

I was going to post this, but you beat me to it.
FL Hit & Run Highest Rates
I had been noticing an uptick in reports involving hit and run drivers. It was confirmed several months ago when the local police called it an "epidemic" and now this article came out in the local paper.

Here's a WP article, citing the same report (AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety):
" fatal hit-and-run crashes have reached the highest point on record in 2016, having increased by more than 7 percent every year since 2009"

I have to wonder if stricter laws actually increase Hit & Run.
Think of the Kalamanzoo Pickett case, He has been in jail for 2 years now after the "accident", and may well be given an extended jail sentence.
Civil forfeiture will likely take everything that Pickett owns.
In other cases, if a person is found to be intoxicated, they could have their license revoked.
If a person had been drinking alcohol before the crash, then there would be benefits of driving home, sobering up, then possibly turning oneself in.
Civil cases are also frequently exceeding minimum insurance requirements. In some cases, the civil cases can even exceed more generous insurance policies.
Of course intoxicated people may not make good decisions in general.
Perhaps it is time to get forward and rearward facing high-res cameras.

It's the hitting part that people are mainly concerned with. The guy in the national park obviously did it on purpose as well, so it's not like he would ever have stopped. If anything he will get off light for his crimes.

I don't care how many camera you have, if you are hit you're hit. They prevent nothing.

It could stop malicious cases like the national park guy, or people who just don't care much if they knock over a cyclist. If they see it first at least.

Also, if people are making a choice, escape with chance of getting caught vs jail/license suspension/etc.
Now, increase both the chances they get caught as well as the penalties, and that may tip the scales in favor of the people stopping.
Of course I haven't been using a camera, but some of the ugliness on the road has me thinking... Not that everything is bad.
Videos may also help with discussions about improving laws.

Rollfast chooses to ignore my several post that I have noted I use a wrist mounted camera, facing rear, to show motorist approaching too close that they will be on video. As soon as I move the camera out so they can see it better, they give me an extra 5 feet.

In this hit-and-run, not only the bicycle was not found, but also missing were the victim's wallet and cell phone:

Police didn’t find Gooch’s bike and said it’s possible the bike became stuck to the vehicle that hit him or the driver stopped to pick it up. Gooch’s wallet and cell phone were also missing, according to his sister.

Nothing was said about it not being a good tool for catching bad behaviors or saving others from their driving, that's pretty obvious. I wasn't born yesterday, I just don't remember the event.

I'm ignoring nothing. The camera only records you getting hit, it never alerted you or did anything to save you. It's for evidence only. Nobody was reading that.

Far too many idiots on their cell phone while driving. Time for all 50 states to enact laws forbidding their use while operating a motor vehicle. Fines need to multiply for each infraction. If death or injury occurs, restitution and punitive damages shall not be less than $25,000. Insurance companies need to include clauses in their policies that relieve them from payouts of personal losses to those who use hand held devices .
