Those students at VCU hardly ever obey the traffic laws. They wonder why they get hit.

This comment is unnecessary and uncalled for.

I think it fits this thread. Maybe a bit abrasive but I have seen how they ride.

I suppose these videos will prompt anti-cyclists in this forum to post cyclists running stop signs - which proves the title of this thread.

Wait, there are anti-cyclists here of Bike Forum? Man, I should go on car forums and harass them!

I don't think the laws matter all that much. Good judgement and paying attention is what stops accidents, and you can't force someone to have those qualities. I've seen motorists and cyclists who completely failed both these tests many times. Also there are some malicious drivers who don't care if they knock down a cyclist or even do it on purpose.

They matter, but mostly in the event of an accident.

Absolutely. And as cyclist we need to always keep that in mind even if its not always our first thought.

I don't know ... I am so busy being scared of liberals, conservatives, Democrats, Republicans, atheists, people of faith, terrorists, white people, people of color, majorities, minorities, aliens form other nations, aliens from other planets, snowflakes, the PC police, the NRA, the gun grabbers, school shooters, white supremacists, fanatics, and people on bicycles ... I am not sure if i can find time in my schedule to be afraid of homicidal maniacs in cars.

I know, I know ... prioritize.

Yes, paying proper attention goes a long way in keeping us safe. But "good judgement" only comes with study, and/or experience. Noobies can believe they are using good judgment, when their actions are actually leaving them more vulnerable.

But malicious drivers out to hit us? This is not a serious problem. The vast majority of motorists who clobber cyclists do so unintentionally.

The courts and the hospitals are occupied with people who think their judgement is better than everybody else's.

Strictly speaking, virtually no one follows all traffic laws. Police have been know to stop suspected drug couriers based on "scrupulous adherence to traffic laws." It's so rare it generates suspicion.

You should probably choose the ones that actually exist. Happened to me, and I know of others to do it on purpose.

Yup ... we have all read about drivers hitting cars ... and terrorists shooting or blowing up or running down crowds ... all that. it Happens.

I suggest that no one is yet living in enough Fear of Everything.

People need more Fear of Everything.

I am sure it is the key to health and happiness.

Yes I will . I admit, sometimes following the rules is a bit hard for us. But let's try our best to be a good example to other cyclist.

Most right turns on red require two complete stops, so it's actually violating two laws.
