How much is this Motobecane worth?

I am looking for information about my Motobecane bicycle. I want to sell it but not sure of the make or what price is reasonable to expect. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'd guess it's an early 70's Motobecane Mirage model, probably around 1973, based on the Solida cottered crankset and the Suntour V-GT Luxe rear derailleur. Cleaned up, in my area, maybe valued around $100 to $125.

For a while, the market for any sort of mixte framed bikes was quite strong, because of their pecieved uniqueness to younger cyclist, mostly, that latched on the the now fading retro bike fad. And because of their real versatility. Being that, this mixte seems to be on the lower end of the model lines, because of the stamped steel dropouts, and I suspect, straight gauge, high tensile steel tubing, it may not fetch more thst $225 max, in perfect, mint condition, and quite a bit less (Maybe 100 bucks max) if there's any rust or wear on the frame, parts and finish....

Looks to be in halfway decent condition, probably worth $125 to $225, depending on buyer's desires.

Now if it had forged rear dropouts with adjustment screws and a Huret Jubile long cage rear derailleur, and Reynolds 531 tubing.....would be a Grand Jubile Mixte, (they also had no model name ID due to Mixte frame) and would be worth more $$$. Don

Some as found pics of my Grand Jubile showing some of the important details to look for. As I mentioned above, the high end mixte versions had no identifier, so seller's aren't always aware of what they are. Don

Is that a split top tube on the Grand Jubilee?

I thought they always had a merged top tube. Here is Mom's bike.

Sorry, all I have is a side view here, but the single TT extends about 3/4 length of the main frame section. It also is clearly marked "Grand Jubilee" on the TT. Vitus tubing.

As far as the OP's bike. It is a rather ordinary Motobecane Mixte. Probably worth between $100 and $200 as others have suggested.

"Is that a split top tube on the Grand Jubilee?"
Yes, its a standard mixte frame. Bike is a 1975, per the seller and confirmed by hub dates etc. Your mom's is a later model with what I think is the most attractive color combo, but it lacks the Jubile DR & ornate Nervex lugs found on the early models. Don't know when they changed to a merged TT, but they made the standard mixte type for several model years. The T.A. triple crank is a nice upgrade to her bike.

I don't know when they started putting the "Grand Jubile" model name on the ladies frames, but it isn't on any of the early mixte's I've seen in person and also not in the catalog pics I've seen. What hub dates are on your mom's bike?

I had read Motobecane changed from Reynolds 531 to Vitus in 1976, but have seen a 1975 mens model with Vitus and have seen other models I.D. as 1976 with Reynolds 531, so there was a change sometime around those years. Don

Just found & reviewed a 1976(or later) and 1984 catalog, both show a mixte type with merged TT in both Mirage/Super Mirage and Grand Touring models but both only show a Gents model Grand Jubile. The 1975 shows both standard Mixte and Gents model Grand Jubile though. Maybe someone else has more knowledge or catalogs to enlighten us. The 1976 catalog also shows a standard step thru ladies Nobly model. Don

ollo ollo, I agree with everything you've said. Also noteworthy is that the 1975 Grand Jubile Mixte came equipped with the exotic long cage Huret Jubilee RD. So did the men's model in '75. As you stated, the lack of model name on the frame sometimes can result in a savy buyer making a great purchase. i bought one of my GJ Mixtes for $75 last year.
