Size 8 helmet - probably XL or XXL

My helmet is over 30 years old and I want to replace it.

I wear a size 8 hat.

I've started chasing a MIPs helmet at a REI, but would like advice on brands and where to purchase. Amazon doesn't have a good filter for this.

Thx

I have the same hat size. So far the biggest bicycle helmet I have come across is 63 cm which is about 7 1/2, from Specialized and crazy expensive. 65 will fit me and may be loose even. 64 probably fits but may be tight. 63 is probably too small but might be able to squeeze in depending on the design and tolerances.

I would purchase one where you can try it on - different helmets fit differently (round vs oblong).

I have a 7 3/4 noggin and I'm comfy in a Giro Large.

I would advise getting out there and trying on some helmets first. Depending on the shape of your skull, some brands may fit a lot better than others. It is definitely the case for myself.

Try the Specialized Max. It's adjustable but it fits big melons and it's only $40.

I had the same problem. If you want a road style helmet look at the Bell Kingfisher. This was my first helmet. If you want a more mountain style look at the Bell Stoker. Both of mine came off Amazon and they both fit me well.

Very true. Drives me nuts trying to put an oblong helmet on my round head.

Assuming American hat sizes, a size 8 is about 64 cm. For most helmets, that would translate to XXL. All the reputable helmet manufactures have sizing charts on their websites.

You should be fine on a Giro XL with size 8 ball cap. They are pretty adjustable as well unless you have an afro, then it may be bit challenging

I share the pain too. I usually have to look for one size larger for fixed/hard hats, when I could usually fit in 7 3/4 soft caps easily.
Absolutely hated the Large Brooks Harrier helmet on long ride cos of the shape. The sides absolutely press onto the skull...

Well I have the very long head type so if none of them were oblong I would be out of luck.
