It's like the difference between a cap and a visor. A visor is the symbol of bad fashion. When I became a runner, I had to go to visors instead of caps. The difference in cooling is night and day. Maybe a trucker hat is the best of both worlds, but I just can't go there. I guess for you people without hair maybe I can understand. Cover might be better than having to lather up with sunscreen.

Quite a few adults ride while holding an umbrella, teenagers seems to use rain suits, when it's raining, which is actually illegal here. I tried it a few times on my hybrid, and it didn't help keep me much drier, but it was a huge hassle. There are contraptions though, made to hold an umbrella for the dutch style bikes here that seem to be popular with women.
Of course, cycling on road bikes keeps getting more popular here and there are all kinds of people out in their lycra enjoying themselves on the weekends, and I even see a couple other guys commuting like that as well.

Hmm... I've never used a skull cap (I do use a beanie for warmth in winter), but in the summer I do always ride with a black headband under my black helmet. Primary purpose is to keep sweat and my hair out of my eyes. Pretty much invisible when I've got the helmet on.

I am ok with people wearing a jersey alone as long as they wear plain black shorts and not the full wanna be kit. Vintage jerseys are better than new ones though. The real tacky one is wearing a leaders/winners jersey. If you are wearing a Maillot (insert French color here) and you didn’t earn it...

To be taken seriously, there needs to be something in the kit that doesn't necessarily match/go with the norm. Something there strictly for performance reasons. It might not even be in the clothes/apparel/accessories. Something that says I use this because it makes my performance better, not because it looks good. Maybe it is low socks. Maybe it's wearing a Croakie on your glasses instead of trying to stick them in your helmet and dropping them. There is an old saying on the golf course. If you want to see what kind of player he/she is don't look at the players appearance. Go look in their bag. If every club in there bag is shiny and new, you have nothing to fear. However, if the player has 2 or 3 old, well worn clubs in there, especially if they are scoring clubs, watch out. You better not be making any bets with that person. They will take your money. Same on the basketball court. You show up in matching gear head to toe, you get laughed off the court. It doesn't matter what brand of gear it is. It doesn't matter if you have game. You still will get laughed at and have to take ribbing. The worst is the player that shows up for about a week straight with a different NBA matching outfit, especially the shoes. If the shoes are matching/color coordinated with the rest of the outfit, he might as well have a bag over his head or a set of Donkey ears.

Yeah..... There are a few around here like that. Pro team kit needs to be signed by a team member... even if only Soigneur that passed out water bottles... who's going to know? Then displayed behind the bar of your man cave or she shed.

Man, where do you guys come up with this stuff? Lol. A lot of guys wear all black because their bike is brighter colored.
And the other guy saying all black looks terrible. If he is the guy in his avatar, I don't really think he is much of a fashion authority.

Headband wearer here. That's good enough for me, keeps the sweat out unless it's crazy humid. Looks terrible minus the helmet, keep seeing Daniel-san in the mirror...so I keep the helmet on when headband engaged

Even fewer look good in a bandana, but I don't imagine anyone wears them for the look - they just leave them on for convenience. I took up wearing a bandana - the kind with the flap - to protect my scalp and the back of my neck. But I do try to remember to replace it with a proper cap when I take off my helmet. Some riders don't need to wear a cap when they take off their helmet; some really ought to consider it.

You must not be or have been a golfer. Bets are made on the first tee before the first ball is hit. If you haven't seen someone in the group play, you have to go on initial impressions. Same with pick up basketball. If there is no sign up list, you have to ask for a run. If they haven't seen you play, they have to go on initial impressions. If you look like Kevin Hart or Elijah Wood, you are probably going to get turned down until the last team. Everyone tells you they already have their team. Then a dude walks up that looks like Lebron and suddenly every team needed a player after all. That's just the way it is.

That's just silly. People may compliment or make fun of their friend's appearance, but they generally don't judge others on their appearance if they already know them. The point of judging others on first glance is to figure out whether (or how) they might bear watching to begin with. You can't watch everyone . And this is why the folks who want to fly under the radar so to speak won't be too stylish, too "pro" or too unconventional .

BTW, regarding golf, I was a decent player at one time. Even got down to single-digit handicap before the arrival of kids ruined my game. Around here we don't play the game of golf like the way Fast Eddie or Vincent Lauria, or Minnesota Fats plays nine ball. We just play for fun.

SMH... Leave that craziness to the runners and tryathletes. Might as well keep the price tag on, so EVERYONE knows....
Honestly, for all I know, it's miracle garb and totally worth it, but the "technical" look of it is preposterous and inexcusable..

I saw some guys last weekend in matching pale pink striped
dress- suit styled kit. Tight fitting on not lean figures.
Can't be unseen.

This behavior of sizing someone (or something) up may be primitive, but in the end it's usually necessary for practical exercises of intelligence and will. Even in the modern world the most advanced and sophisticated among us can't pay the same attention to everyone and everything. If it's an activity we choose to participate in, we still have to decide, somehow, who and what gets what kind of attention, and how much. Alternatively we can just be passive and dumb, or let someone else make the decision for us.
I do believe that most of the time we don't pay much attention to appearances, and most of the time it doesn't matter. But I do not believe those who say they never pay any attention, or that it never matters to them.

It's really not. A lot of people here are wearing black with maybe a pop of color now and it looks quite good enough to where more and more people are doing it.
