1970's not-special Schwinn frame'd beach cruiser

Hey gang, I found a late 1970's Schwinn frame my neighbor was getting rid of and built it as a no-frills cruiser. All that was there was the frame and the crank so I bought all new parts, added some lightweight aluminum wheels, and Vans waffle-style grips. And oh yea, I added BMX-style bars for a more upright riding position. I use it to cruise the beach after work.

Its a few years old now after the rebuild and getting some rust in places due to the salt and sand but I get a thumbs up almost every time I ride.

Sounds cool, I've thought about replacing some steel rims with alloy. Post some pics when your post count gets up!

Yea hey 55murray, you should go with the alloys. I picked up aluminum wheels at the local bike shop after I mocked it up with steels wheels. Total weight was like 45 lbs! You gotta cut weight where you can.

Am thinking about going with a smaller sprocket too.

Nice! Keeping the classics on the road and rolling is a good thing. Too many crappy made cruisers these days. The old Chicago Schwinn frames are worth putting quality new parts on, as they were well made and are nice riders.
