Marin Hybrids
Went to the LBS today to pick up some small parts. While I was there I looked at some of his Marin Hybrids. They looked to be nice bikes for the money. Anyone have any experience or reviews? Inquiring minds want to know.

Their performance hybrids are hot. Not 2010 Cannodale Quick hot but pretty hot.

I have two Marins, the Larkspur and the Point Reyes. I love both of them. I'd buy another Marin before I'd buy the favorite brand on this forum. I think Marin delivers greater quality for less $. And the unique look of their frames is a plus. Recently I replaced the drivetrain on my Larkspur. The frame seemed worthy of Deore parts and indeed, it is.

I have the Larkspur. I love it. Fast, light and well made.
$399 at Sun and Ski. I thought it was a good deal when I bought it.
After a couple hundred miles I think it is a great deal.

I had a co-worker who owned two of them. We rode toghether from time to time. From what I could gather by riding with him and his feedback they are great bikes! He told me he purchased his from Sun & Ski because they offer lifetime tune-ups. I don't have liftetime tune-ups for my Trek from my LBS.

When I decided to retire my Trek 820 for a hybrid, I thought I'd go with a Trek or Cannondale. Went to a few shops which carried one or another and finally went to another smaller shop (well respected in my area) which caried both brands. Told them what I was looking for and what my price range was and they pulled out a Larkspur and said it was what I wanted. Tried it out and bought it hand have been extemely happly with it. Well made, rides great & looks good. No problems with it this summer & I put 75-100 miles per week on it.

ive got an 08 marin belvedere its fast, & pretty light 19.5lb with front and rear full fenders and for the price you cant really beat it. some of the componentes could use an upgrade but ive put a few thousand miles on it over the last couple of years and i havent had one serious issue outside of breaking the chain.

The 2005 Lucas Valley also had carbon seat stays. They listed for $800 but I bought this one new in 2007 for $460 at REI. Almost 5000 miles on it now without a single problem.
These bikes are actually more road than hybrid, as they have road tires and gearing. The only thing not "traditional road" is the handlebars. "Flat bar road bike" is not only a better definition, but is exactly what the manufacture calls them. Quick rides.

There's a LBS just a few short miles away that carries Marin. I would have pulled the trigger on one by now but my computer took a dump so I had to replace it, instead.
It looks like I'll have to flog some more miles out of the old '97 Multitrack 730. 
I can't really complain though...it's one tough mother.

My girlfirned just can't wait to try out the new combo... just gotta pray snow will hold back a few more weeks up here in Montreal.

My bike sure is spiffy now, with Deore rear der, Deore XL front der and brake levers/shifters, Avid SD7 brakes. I'm thinking I'll get the headset upgraded, too, sometime over the winter.
Good luck with your rebuild of the drivetrain.
