It’s fingerboard is flat. Very typical of the old made in Chicago parlor guitars. Nickel wire frets however, are the mark of an upper tier instrument. I suspect flat fingerboards were a traditional holdover from the classical and gut string era. Anyhow, I like the feel of it along with the “v” profile neck. It’s what I’m used to, and feel most comfortable with. Just right for my style of fingerpicking... early country blues!

not really C&V, but a clone of a ‘59 LP I built a few years back.

I'm not a guitar player (my brother is), but I am a musician. A drummer to be specific. In fact, me getting back into playing drums a couple of years ago is actually the reason I've really slacked off of building bikes and frequenting the forums lately. After a bad band breakup many years ago, I sold off my drums and decided to take a break from playing music. That break lasted about 4 years, and during that period is when I got so deep into bikes.
Back in early 2018 though my brother and I both decided to get back into playing, and so we started shopping for instruments. That's when I found the most AMAZING drum set I've ever seen just sitting in a pawn shop in New Orleans. Everything about it was absolutely perfect for me, and I just had to have it!
It's a 1980 Pearl G-Series Maple shell Big Beat kit in high gloss Walnut lacquer, and a slightly older 14×6.5" Pearl COB Jupiter snare. Sizes are all standard depths 13/14/16/18/24". These were Pearl's top of the line shells at the time, made in Japan, this kit had a list price of $2,123.00 in 1980! Made from 8 plies of Rock Maple with a 6mm shell thickness, no reinforcement rings, and beautifully rounded 45 degree bearing edges. They sound INCREDIBLE!
I LOVE THIS KIT!!!
Shortly after acquiring the drums, we found a killer guitar for my brother as well! It's not quite as old as the drums, but it's every bit as awesome! It's a 1993 Ibanez RT-650. They were also made in Japan, and only produced for about a year starting in late '92 and going into '93 before being discontinued. I'm no guitar player, but he seems to really love it, and from what I've read online they have a reputation for being some real sleepers! In other words, they sound and play WAY better than their price would suggest. I know it sure does sound good! Even though I can't play it, in my opinion it's one of the most beautiful guitars I've ever seen, and I definitely don't mind having to see it from behind my drums while we play lol.

My first guitar. Late 50s archtop. My mom got at a garage sale for $2 back in the 70s. Forget the make, I've looked it up, but don't remember at the moment
It was quite a good player, hence all the fingerboard wear - no "relic" job here.
Eventually, the neck joint came unglued, so it is waiting for my lutherie skills to develop.

this is finished with Mohawk rattle can nitro, horrible to use due to the fumes and no spray booth.
my current finish is tru-oil, easy, cheap, a bit slow though.
These two are 00’s, everyone loves the smaller size

This guitar may not be "vintage," but it's kind of a KOF in it's own Chinese-copy 21st century way! Disclaimer--I'm far from being good enough to deserve this instrument. And the brand name gives it a place here.

Spent $10 at a thrift - vintage Ross phaser circa 1978. I don't think Tom Kellogg was involved....

L to R:
• Unknown archtop. Possibly a pre-war Kay. Pressed laminate top. I suspect Mahogany all around.
• Late teens to early 20’s Regal made B&J “Victoria” parlor. Solid woods, spruce top, birch back and sides.
• 1938 Harmony made “Supertone.” Solid, carved spruce top. Solid birch back and sides.

I used to have a very nice ‘62 Melody Maker, but I sold it back to the guy who traded it to me, because he had a new album out and really wanted to have that guitar to tour with.
Closest thing I have now to vintage are a 1976 Ripper bass and a 1984 Lotus LP copy.

I had a 66 Melody Maker that was one of my favorite guitars. In a bout of stupidity I sold it. out of all the guitars I've had I miss that one the most.
