Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

all that plus I need a bigger garage. And less house. And the financial part plays a huge role too. I should be mortgage free after all is said and done.

So I'm looking at a house tomorrow @ 3 lol. It's smaller than I want but it's also cheaper. Can't hurt to look.

Very cool. I'm grappling with those issues as well. Keep telling my wife I'd like a smaller house with a six car sized garage (not that I'd have 6 cars, but the space would be used for a workout room and other things). Ain't happening though, at least not the garage.

Picked up a Varia yesterday. Hope to try it out today if it warms up a little.

Got my clock cleaned but good, this a.m. I clearly hadn't recovered from Saturday's ride. I attribute this to age.

In other news, the S-Works shoes are by far the best I've tried in about 45 years of using bike shoes, which isn't actually saying much.

The owner at the last dealer I worked had a small, older house on a big piece of land. He built a custom 9 car garage there.

Problem is there are guys almost as old kicking my ass. Maybe I should grow my hair and beard out. I'm sure they're virtually white.

Don't feel bad. My wife kicks my ass. We’re heading out on a hilly ride that has a half dozen short hills. That means that I’ll be dropped at least six time for sure.

Oh, there are plenty of guys older than I am who can kick my ass. Lighter, fitter, and have taken better care of their bodies. No to mention they train better.

Sweet!

Not sure I could do that as I don't want a lot to maintain as I get older. I'm sure we'll simply stay where we are as we are well situated to have kids and grandkids stay with us based on the layout of the house.

My wife is completely opposed to me having a beard or ponytail (lack of fur up top may have something to do with the latter), so I told her that if she ever puts me in a home, I am never shaving or cutting my hair again.

My (former) hair always looked terrible and my beard is an embarrassment (think Brad Parscale ).

I am going to have my nursing home care instructions tattooed on my chest in English, Spanish, and Haitian Creole.

Found my saddle bag. It was hiding under by dining table on a dark spot on the rug. I think I had taken it off one time when I went shopping due to the presence of sketchy people. Probably fell (or crawled) out of my messenger bag when it was on one of the dining chairs.

Wait - you got dropped on a tandem, by your stoker, after being given the look? That's rough.

Which S-Works did you get? Some of them look interesting, and they've worked for me in the past, though I think that I'd need one of their wide models, now. Too bad they're so freaking expensive for something that I can't shove my feet in to before buying.

We were joking about elder care the other night with some friends. I expressed my wish that my caregiver be a young, blonde, Swede (or something like that). Wife said she could take care of that, but the Swede would be old, fat and smoke.

7. Yes, very expensive and I'm not at all sure they're worth all that.

Guy had a pair of almost new 44 wides, which he couldn't use and sold them to me for 200. I am probably more of a 43.5, but the fit is good and I might be able to use slightly thicker socks for warmth and comfort, which I've always wanted to do. So far, the shape is feels better than my Lake 238s, which put a bit of pressure on the metatarsal area of my right foot and also seem to have to be quite snug to prevent my feet from sliding forward. The real test is how they feel after 3 hrs, though.

Oh yeah - now I remember you mentioning them. Yeah, that's a pretty nice deal and I would have been tempted, too, if I thought that they might work.

And this reminds me that I never did take my Specialized insoles out of my old shoes and try them in the Lakes - I might have to do that. I occasionally have some minor discomfort after loooong and/or higher intensity rides, and the Spec "Metatarsal Button" seemed to do okay for me in the past.

Sounds like a good idea. Experience suggests that insoles make a huge difference, comfort-wise.

I have found the same thing to be true for my narrow feet.
