Somewhere along the road, the phrase "War on X" became part of standard lazy American political rhetoric (see also: "Whatever-gate").
Of course, that all sounds so terribly reasonable. It's not the rhetoric of war. And war -- at least when it comes to politics -- is what sells.

Maybe I missed it, but as far as the "War on Terror" goes, I thought bullets and bombs were actually being used in a manner to make it a REAL war.

Perhaps, but propaganda never sleeps the way tired soldiers have to. Point being, we have allowed the majority to frame the debate in terms favorable to them for far too long.

Nice post! really learned something. I was at first confused if I will proceed in reading the entire story but I as I go along I noticed that it is very helpful. I really think that I need to focus and give more time in reading such kind of post. I usually never give time to this kind of post as for me my time will just be put to waste. Now that I know I will read more of this. By the way great video too! though I did not watch it directly to youtube instead I watched it on vimeo for high definition quality.

The two current deployments are "Military engagements authorized by Congress", but are not backed by formal declarations of war.

I dunno, it feels nice to have a war on an actual object for a change, rather than on words.

Here is an explanation from BSNYC that might help you understand:
https://bikesnobnyc.blogspot.com/2011...-ant-farm.html
Somehow, the simple act of riding a bicycle for transportation has become one of the most politically charged acts in the United States, right up there with Qur'an burning and making g-strings out of the American flag. It is my most fervent wish that this were not the case, since the last thing I feel like doing when I hop aboard my Big Dummy is making some sort of statement. (I feel like my Stars and Stripes g-string and handlebar-mounted Qur'an-fueled hibachi are more than enough in that regard.) Unfortunately though, I know there are people in New York City who hate me just because I'm riding a bike...
