Picked up this Trek 370 and robbed it of its wheelset, pedals and seat post for a more important project. Then mounted some spare parts I had in the shop including some older Mavic wheels, clip in pedals, raceblades fenders and an old seat. Had intentions of selling it- but rode it 10 miles today and it’s smooth! Another keeper! Future plans may include wider tires, maybe a single speed or might just keep as it is. It’s heavy but rides great. .

'Just finished up overhaul and paint on a handcycle that is being donated to a young paraplegic in my area. The project came to me from my LBS ....Bike Garage, Port Angeles, WA. We have teamed up on lots of bikes that are given away in our community, but never anything like this! It got a brushed enamel paint job over well sanded powder coat that was failing badly. What you see as shiny bits now were terribly corroded from sitting out in the weather. The seat and front assembly lean left/right relative to the rear wheels, allowing the bike to turn. 'Scared the pants off me at first, but I got the hang of it pretty quickly.

Cockpit.....the crank arms are in phase.... 3x8 Suntour Accushift..... Single brake / lever..... Velcro straps on the forward foot rests to secure the riders legs.

Built a wheel this weekend. I will have to do it over again as I forgot to align it and it is rubbing on the fender... but other than that I'm pretty happy with it.
Luckily tomorrow is Kingsday around here so I have another day off to work on things.

P.s. I had a friend come over yesterday who commented that it looked like a cool small wheel.. it's not, that's a 90mm drum brake hub on a 700C rim. But they tend to distort things a bit.

Been messing with bells. I hate clamping bells onto handlebars or stems. Instead, I prefer to drill the stem and directly mount the bell. Now, normally I'd just buy a bell that has a proper screw mount, like the Crane Karen or Crane Suzu mini. But a while back, I was given some full size Crane Suzu bells, which come with a stamped sheet metal clamp that is integral with the striker lever support, so you can't directly mount the bell to a threaded hole in the stem. One of them was given by family, and is hand-painted, so I couldn't very well not use it. So I made some striker supports out of alu and some threaded studs out of stainless screws.

It took too long and wasn't worth it, but like I said, they're from family so they have meaning beyond their monetary value.




I also put a bell on another bike, this one from the parts bin. It had been crashed, and somehow in the crash it lost the striker and spring, so I had to fabricate those too. I just took an off-cut from a VO or Berthoud fender strut and used a die to cut m6x1.0 threads, then screwed it into half a tension spring. I also buffed off the anodizing and scratches and polished it out.

I started the day replacing a couple tub less valves and topping up the sealant on my wife’s giant one. Then I cleaned and lubed up my own opus hard tail. All that took about an hour or so. Lotsa fun.

then I thought I’d pull out my old crameratti and give it some love. Unfortunately all she gave me was heart burn. After taking a break to breath I gave up on the pedal type and did some work on my 1970 CT90.

i retired as a welder from cat inc. You're giving me bad flashbacks.
Seriously at one point i welded the case and frame of d11 tractors. Some serious amounts of weld wire in those things.

Scrubbing up my chrome '97 Huffy Tremor with some aluminum foil because I just learned that's a thing!! Works like a charm! Also did the forks, lugs, and stays on the '72 Newest.

Thanks-- are you asking about the Newest or the Sierra?! The Newest I found at a local recycling/reuse center just the frame and forks for $25! I thought I was dreaming and I basically dove on it and ran to the register to pay 😂 The Sierra I picked up off Detroit CL just the frameset and wheels for $35!

I toured that plant about 15 years ago, as part of a STEM contest my daughter was in. It was right after Hurricane Katrina and they had 6 big diesel generators being loaded on train cars to go to New Orleans.

I had this Serotta frame that I had decided to sell, but it garnered no serious offers. Instead of lowering the price I decided I would rather keep it in the family.
I had built up a nice towny years ago, that I really enjoyed. My oldest son took a shine to it and it now resides at his place. My middle son didn’t have a bike - so I decide to build the Serotta up as towny for him.
Built from mostly stuff I had on hand, except for the Milan bars and brake levers from Velo Orange, it turned out nice and rides super smooth.

Still working with fine tuning my drop bar conversion of my 1989 Trek 950...

RSX brifters. Original Mountain LX mechs. Fun to ride the neighborhood so far. More after bar tape and final tuning.

Just about wrapped up my 1997 Cannondale R300.

Sora 3400 brifters, RSX mechs, and a 12-32 9 speed cassette. I added a road link though until I decide on a better rear mech. Feels good, will stop better with new brake pads. Now to decide on a bar tape color...

Touch up paint went on today... wet it was a REALLY good match... of course, I'd mixed a lot of orange and some fire engine red, and didn't want the paint to dry out, so I proceeded while the first patch dried. It's definitely a shade darker than the rest of the paint, but even with a perfectly matched touchup paint, this Guerciotti was only going to get to a 4/10 paint, instead of a 3/10.



edit: ugh those are horrible pictures. low light plus cruddy cell phone. I'll get the good camera and fast prime out for the after, I promise.

I've been going through my bikes and this is my urban/commuter/beach/trainer flat bar bike. I installed a 13-32 Sachs Aris 7 speed freewheel but it was so wide that the chain was barely clicking the dropout. I have a countersunk bolt recessed to hold the rack, but that is another story. Did a slight bit of filing on the bolt head, found a .5mm thick washer to add to the drive side, and installed a 9 speed chain. Success.
