Why not take the time to refine your question? Complete new bike? Isolated component? Replacing a groupset? Tell people what you have in mind and you'll get more helpful replies.

There is a contingent of people where the difference between the two would make a difference. If you’re part of that contingent, go for the Ultegra; if not, the 105.

If you can afford the higher cost go with the Ultegra. It’s cooler than 105 just like 105 is cooler than Tiagra.

Main difference across the entire group-set is the weight of components, if you are like me there are more than enough pounds to shed off of my body. A couple hundred grams here and there wont be my limiting factor

I've been an Ultegra guy for 30 years, till 4 years ago when I installed a 7000 group. It's as good as Ultegra, came in black (on a matt black bike) and is perfect all around. The front shift is particularly better in this group. You can't justify Ultegra to get better shifting, 105 is that good.

If you are buying a new mechanical groupset, SRAM is best because their front derailleur do not need trimming. Shimano is sadly behind the curve in this important technology.

I bought my bike with full 105 and I am now replacing worn out or broken parts with Ultegra (derailleur, cassette, chain...)...piece by piece...

It doesn’t really matter. Get 105 Eventually you’ll want Ultegra if for nothing other than the bling factor. Soon enough you will get Dura Ace and realize that 105 performed just as well. Full circle ⭕️

I have two road bikes that I ride regularly. One has SRAM Red (10 sp) and one 105 (11 sp). I love the mechanical and definitive shift feel of the SRAM but there is absolutely nothing wrong with 105 and if you have a different sense of "feel" of shifting you might prefer it. I had been toying with swapping 105 for Ultegra or even Dura Ace on my CAAD 12 but I didn't have a good answer for the one question that kept coming to me......Why?

I have this same question, not really answered in the posts above. A year and a half ago I'd pretty much decided I wanted a Diverge with 105, but my LBS had one with Ultegra that they put on sale, so I bought it. I'm riding Ultegra but never have had a bike with 105, and I'm wondering whether I'm really better off with Ultegra or if I would even notice the difference. It doesn't really matter because I already have the bike with Ultegra, but I am curious as to whether I'm better off because of it.

Sram doesn't even have a front derailleur that halfway works, so you must be talking about 1x in which there's no derailleur period.
