Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I have same inseam and I ride a 51-52, overall for any frame. Don't see why CAAD 12 be different. I don't understand how a 48 is too big for 77 inseam.

Because when i try the CAAD12 and put my foot on the ground, the TT is hitting my crotch. And When I set the best saddle position, I realised that the saddle height is just the same as the handle bar..

I prefer my saddle height is higher than handle bar. Look like pro.. LOL..

What year is the CAAD12? If this is the 2016 model, get the 2017 model instead because they changed the geometry (sloping TT) for the smaller sizes (44,48,50,52).

You can see below the difference between 2016 (Black) against 2017 SIZE 44. You would more seat post for the 2017.

Having said that, a 48 should fit you fine IMO. I'm 5'5" and ride a 48. The standover is lower on the 2017 (73cm) vs 2016 (76cm).

Wow, that's amazing! Yes, the first I look at the CAAD12 2016, I realize that TT is so much long and the seat tube is so high.

And after reading a news from you, i'm glad that you have a similar height with me. So the CAAD12 2017 have the 44 size for small man (like me).

Are you sure that 48 is suits on me, or I just buy the 44? Because I read somewhere, picking one size down is giving you a better handling and better look for the bike (the high saddle position). CMIIW.

If you're not in hurry, can I see your CAAD12 with your saddle set up, so I can see how tall is the saddle comparing with the handle bar.

Thank you.

Although in years past this used to be a way of measuring correct size, I don't believe that's the current thinking for bike fit (although I can understand your concern )

It's really about how you fit while on the bike.
Also, when you come to a stop you will likely only "un-clip" one foot and put that on the ground, which means you will have the bike leaning between your legs while the other foot stays clipped in.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong about the crotch issue with top tube regarding fit.

TT length is the same. The ST is longer on the 2016. Have your LBS check on the size that would fit you just to make sure. The Synapse I bought at another dealer sized me on a 48 as well.

My CAAD12 is a 2016 model. On the picture comparison above, the TT slope of the 2017 model resembles my Synapse. If you opt for the 2017, you will see more seat post but kindda loses the CAAD aesthetics (more horizontal TT). So there's a trade off.

I would probably trim down my steerer tube to the lowest I can go as far as my fit is concerned by trying an incremental swap of the spacers. But that's in the future (maybe). Right now, I'll stick with it.

The sloping TT of 2017 resembles TT of my Synapse below (both SIZE 48).

Your bike is one of my favorite caad12s. The color scheme and aeronovas are great. I want some, just can't deal with all of that extra reach

^^ Thanks. Yes, the Aeronova would look great in any bike. Just sub 200gm for a 40mm LTD stealth edition. I did replaced my stem with a shorter one (80mm).

Doesn't a stem that short greatly affect handling? What stem length did you start at?
I got a set of c1 bars that were about 76mm reach compared to my c3 that were 90mm. I went from a c3 100mm to a c1 110mm stem to combat the loss of reach and sofar its working out. If I got the aeronovas, I would need to do something similar. I've been told that less than 100mm, stems can make the bike feel too "twitchy"

^^ Original was a C2 100mm stem. Didn't really notice any twitch when I switched most probably because I needed to adjust my ride with a new handlebar + stem. I would guess if you just changed the stem, you probably would notice something (more responsive steering with a shorter stem = twitch). Maybe?

anyone have a CAAD12 in Cashmere? Annoyingly the website has no photo of this color, just black. Plus I'd like to see what it looks like in the real world.

Hi

I'm going to buy a CAAD 12 and can't decide between a 50 or 52. I'm 5'8" (173cm) and use a 54 carbon bike now with sloped top tube. Which is your CAAD 12? I'm worried that I get very little seat exposure and little to nothing seat-to-bar drop with the 52. I don't gave the possibility to try it in a store.

A lot is going to depend on how long your legs and arms are. I'm 5'6" and ride a 52 CAAD10 so similar geometry to the CAAD12. I have about 9cm of post exposed and 4.6cm of drop with another 2cm or so of spacers underneath.

I've now decided to go for the 52. Got a great deal on a 2016 Ultegra in red for about $1100. It's only rider for appr. 1200k and is flawless. But now I've discovered that the Ultegra version also is available in a beautiful gunmetal grey. This is like the dream bike for me and I may be waiting until I get a hold of one of these. I think this version also was available last year if I'm correct?

Was looking for an old photo the other day, and came across a pic I took of my CAAD10 way back in 2011, when it was new and shiny:

Fresh in from River City Bicycles, complete with wire cages, plastic platforms, compact chainrings, and basically zero drop thanks to a mile-high stack of spacers.

And now, in 2017:

Still rocking the factory RS-10 wheelset (sadness), but now at least I've got some clipless pedal (Look Keo Blades), and some color coordination from the mid-compact chain rings (52/28 SRAM Red), stem (100mm Zipp Service Course SL installed at -17°), bars (wrapped in white fizik Performance Classic), and saddle (fizik Arione CX). Also, drop!

Love this bike.

Looks nice! We pretty much have the same setup except the drivetrain. You should cut the tube since you've been riding it for a while now.

Planning to cut the top tube this season. Sad to say, I'd been rolling around with 2cm of spacers all the way through last year. Over the "winter" (like we have those here!) I dropped it all the way to the (2.5cm) headset cover, and traded my old 90mm/6° stem for the current 110mm/17° stem. Once I'm satisfied that I haven't gone too far, too fast... off it goes!

I'll probably fix the right hand shifter at the same time, too

Been posting this photo in other threads, why not here? My commuter: XR800 cyclocross frame, fusion of road front triangle and MTB rear triangle from CAAD 3 era. Equipped with Shimergo setup, cables and decals and seat and cage all matchy-matchy.

"Clean Ride" lube all over the tires, clean forsooth

After an eBay seller backed out of the sweet deal I got on a complete CAAD12 Ultegra, I scored this CAAD10 frameset. My first non-steel bike. 56cm frame. Going to build it on a budget with a 5800/6800 mix and a PRO Vibe cockpit, along with Force 22 BB30 cranks and a set of Bitex/Archetype wheels that I already own.
