Looking for a good aluminum bike. Not custom.

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Looking for a good aluminum bike. Not custom.

I got into a road bikes and i have a fuji newest 3.0. Im looking towards a higher budget bike. I hear the caad 10 is one of the best when it comes to aluminum frames. But if im going to buy a caad 10 ill probably have to buy it used ( ive found some good deals on craiglist). There is another bike i saw at my local bike store called specialized allez 2018 (red). Its around $700 and theres life time warranty. My budget is below $1000. Im looking for a road bike thats around 20 pounds and aluminum.

I currently ride a CAAD 10, a Bowman Palace R, a Kinesis Aithein and a BMC ALR01. Each is an excellent aluminum frame. In my opinion, you cannot go wrong with any of these. Recently, I have seen each of these frames sold as used on eBay for $300 to $600.

If it's aluminum you must have I think the caad bikes are hard to beat. Cannondale has been doing it a long time and they seem to have it right. And a loyal following from the criterium racers in my region. Fairly light sturdy and fast. Just my opinion mind you.

The base Allez you mention has a Claris drivetrain. Itll weigh 21#.

https://www.raleighusa.com/merit-42422
Sign up for a corporate discount and this will cost $750. Instead of claris, youll get a 105 drivetrain with quality disc brakes, dampening seatpost and stem, as well as solid tires. It weighs 23#.

Its heaver by 2#, sure, but it comes with a cockpit and drivetrain that are higher level.

^^^This. CAAD10 is not just a journeyman, it's a sleeper: A killer road bike disguised as an off-the-shelf commodity.

Ridley Fenix AL might be a good option too. I got mine with Tiagra a while back for $700. Performance is selling last year's model with 105 for $899 right now: Ridley Fenix AL Shimano 105 Road Bike -- 2016 Performance Exclusive - Performance Bike

More CAAD10 love here. I've been rolling around on a 10 since 2011, and I love it. As do a lot of other people, it seems... every time it shows up in, at, or near a shop, I get positive comments on it, from just about everyone. Considering what they cost (and my limited, obviously biased, frame of reference), consider this another recommendation for a CAAD. There's a lot to love, and really not a lot to dislike.
