Wheels, glad you got in. I also got in the 100 but, several of my friends did not. From what I am hearing the event actually sold out in less than 5 minutes. I think the field was actually expanded from 1,600 riders to 2,000 this year (I could be wrong).

All is not lost for those who want to ride, there will be an ample amount of transfers to be had in coming months.

For those who are registered, now is the time to get your lodging reserved. Last year all lodging was sold out very shortly after registration. Emporia State University will start offering dorm rooms in the near future but, they usually sell out as well.

Finally, if you are planning on hiring your support crew through Dirty Kanza (all proceeds go to charity) do it now through Bike Reg because last year support crew sold out as well.

Got a spot in the 200...now to get serious with the training. Most lodging was sold out months ago. I've got a room in Topeka just in case I don't get a dorm room.

Hope you get in the dorms, Topeka is long drive for 6:00 am start.

We staying the dorms last year and they are great but, expensive with a three night minimum. We got our rooms reserved last fall.

Not to mention I think packet pickup is only on Friday, so if you stay out of town you might have to make two trips.

I was on at 0759 and got into the Half Pint right at 0800. Went rather smoothly considering, although I had several teammates who said they got to the payment page but could not get it to process and did not get in. I was tempted to do sign up for the 200 but want to be realistic about first time goals, finishing. I had looked into lodging weeks ago and it was pretty booked already, luckily our team has lodging set up. Good luck to everyone!

I got in the 100, but it's my first time doing something like this, so finishing is my only goal. Spend a week training around Hays on gravel roads over Xmas some days with 15-20mph wind. The wind will be a formidable foe!

Registration was "over before it even began".

An Open Message To Our Friends and Followers - Dirty Kanza 200

While I feel for those who wanted in and didn't get a spot, it also makes my spot all that more special for me. Now to HTFU and get to training so I have a good showing (I.e., finish).

A knee injury isn't allowing DK for me this year, but . . .

Rule #1 - Most hotels start taking reservations for the next year's DK weekend by the end of June. The best non-dorm options will be sold out by July 4 for the next year's DK. Some will sell out on their first day to accept reservations.

And I will never forget emailing Jim a few years back, LESS THAN SIX WEEKS before the event. I was going to be in Kansas on business for a couple months and I wanted to find a good group ride. There aren't many centuries in Kansas, compared to Tennessee. I did a search and up came "Dirty Kanza." I had no idea what kind of challenge the race would present. Jim welcomed me and assured me that, if I wanted in, I could get in. It was all a very friendly, casual situation. (Jim still had his day job then.) DK has grown up. It's not the same as it once was -- it was almost a super-organized group ride. DK has hit its stride and is a very slick production these days.

I hope my knees cooperate and I'm able to go back someday.

When I signed up for the 100, I initially tried to access via my phone at 7:59 or 8:00, which didn't work at all, then got on my laptop around 8:01 or 8:02, and then I had to create an account at bikereg, which I didn't realize I needed, so it was probably 8:05 before I was checking out, which I had to do manually since I had no payment on file. So in light of all that and the registration rush, I guess it's pretty amazing I got a slot.

I had my 200 confirmation by 8:01 a.m. Went smoother than I expected. I have experienced signup sites crash for utramarathons with less available slots, so I came prepared. All three of us shop guys got into the 200.

I'm in too for the DK200. I get in because I'm going to Emporia for the training class the first week of April. We will be riding almost 200 miles in 3 days and from what I've been told we will have an excellent introduction of what this ride is all about. I can't wait. Now to get back on my trainer!

Really good, thanks, Shelby. I used my 2015 Salsa Fargo, that was fine for the event. I rode the Rage Against the Chainring series to get ready--they were hard because I was out of shape. I got better. I was happy I came in about mid pack at 4:14. I had four mechanical stops, though. I'm sure 100 and 200 are seriously harder. I want to train much more for next year.

Congrats! Were your mechanical issues things you could avoid next time or just bad luck?

That blue thread lock on some of the bolts would have helped. Having the front derailleur in better adjustment would have helped, also, the chain kept coming off shifting into the big ring. I also lost part of my gear fell off and I didn't realize it until later. The road was very rough at places. I'll secure everything better next year.

Derek I think I saw you posting this over at the other gravel website. If I may ask how much was the training class cost?

If I recall it was $800 and for what we got it was well worth it. Unfortunately I didn't get to ride the event. I blew up my IT band in my right leg the third week of April and the Dr. said stop riding for at least 6 weeks. So that killed the most important training time for me. I might have still been able to do it but I'd likely have cost me the rest of the season. We're working back into my training program now and so far so good.

So does the $800 also get you into the DK200 or any of the other distance rides?

Looks like it. I couldn't imagine anything I saw being worth $800, that seems a little ridiculous. How much does it cost to register for just the race?

• $799 ($199 non-refundable deposit due at sign up for both
tracks)
• Camp Includes:
• Entry into the DK200 or DK100
• 3 Dinners & 1 Lunch
• A 2016 Dirty Kanza Jersey
• Pro Mechanical Support
• 3 Educational Seminars
• Nutrition/Training, Bike Prep/Map Reading,
Mechanical Tips
• Guided Rides in Dirty Kanza Territory
• Led by the Dirty Kanza Promotions Team, former
DK200 Champion Yuri Hauswald, 4x King of Kanza Dan
Hughes, former Tour Divide record holder Jay
Petervary, Salsa Rider Andrea Cohen and more!
• Optional Yoga Class
• Huge amount of SWAG from our sponsors to all registered
campers!
• 2 Training Tracks - We will be offering two separate route
distances throughout the week, 1 geared for people
registering for the DK200 and 1 focusing on folks taking
on the DK100.

Registration alone is $140 I think.

I've never done the camp, don't need it. I think the biggest appeal is that it guarantees you a spot. Actual registration sold out in about 10 minutes this year. I've heard rumors that next year they'll go to a lottery system (which I would support) but nothing official.
