... I wouldn't argue with Tom's experience of the Treks he actually handled, and all those parts you have on your bike. It sounds quite plausible for Trek. You could just go the the Vintage Trek site, pull up the .pdf of the 1983 models and see what Trek said they were using as OEM back then for that model. ...
So, it turned out instead to be a more weathered 600 frame as a freebie; I'm OK with that. And if someone gives me a minty 720 frame someday, I can move the parts over easily enough

Finished this project today with bits and pieces from my parts bins. The Surly fork made up the slack head angle of the Comp FS. Had a set of Origin 8 cantis laying around. The front cable hanger I ordered just happened to be Origin 8 too. If it rides good, it will be my "Winter" roadie since I don't want my Trek 560 getting anymore wet than it has.

I finally got the Peugeot back on the road after getting a newer Simplex derailleur from France, thanks Ebay. It took a little tweaking, but it seems to work again. I have a spare VGT Luxe in case this one dies, but I like the classic Simplex look. The pivot spring on the original was sprung out of shape, and I couldn't figure how to fix it, so I found another, even had the Peugeot logo plate, win win!

Disassembled a special Raleigh Competion to ship to @cqlink.

I just received my first ever pair of new rims. Alex Ace 19. I'm re_building Sunshine high flange hubs for them, and plan to finally use that 6 speed corncob.

Took the Inter 10 out for a shakedown. It didn't need much adjusting, other than the RD cable. I must be getting better at this.
One thing I like about this bike - other than the ride, which is sublime - is that it doesn't show its size as much as many others do. This really is a 25" frame:

I'm setting up my 79 Trek 930 with front and rear racks, and going on faux one day tours, with the intention of transferring that hardware and knowledge to a 1980 Trek 414, which I plan to deliver across the state of Ohio by riding it, come May. I'm also overhauling a pair of Sunshine high flange hubs, for the new rims I bought, and assembling a second mtb, for a ride outside of Tulum with a friend I'll pick up in Cancun next month.

I finally got the "new" Simplex RD dialed in. It's been raining for 4 days straight, unusual in LA. Haven't given it much of a workout, but it worked well for 10 miles between storms. I have a spare VGT Luxe all cleaned up and waiting in the wings, if this Simplex dies.

currently have a mid 70's peugeot A O 8 in the shop. I am swapping out the Cottered cranks for a later Peugeot branded Alu job. I picked this one out of the pile at the Bike Exchange because it has the same Blue metallic paint as the Mixte I just did. Want a matched pair to show at our upcoming sale.

Here are the two Peugeots I wrote about previously . The Mixte is a '68 I think and the AO8 is a "76 or so.
Both have been completely disassembled and put back together with all bearings serviced, new cables and covers, upgraded wheels, derailleurs etc and aluminum cranks. I kept the Simplex stem mounted levers on the AO8 as they work well and look classy.
Both bikes were very dirty and much of the brightwork was badly corroded as found but the paint and decals were in great shape and some time in the vinegar bath followed by a good buffing did wonders for the brakes, levers and stem .
The AO8 had a model of Weinman brakes I had not seen before. No bolt holding the arms together. Instead of adjusting nuts for the arms they are riveted together making adjustment impossible. They were in good shape though so no adjustment necessary.
I especially liked the funky looking reflectors on the AO8. They are in great condition and should really work well.

Sports Tourer project
I'm slowly movimg into the ranks of people who get to ride bikes they've redone. This summer I finished refurbishing my high school grad purchase Schwinn Super Sport (bought in 74). In the process I found & bought a Schwinn Sports Tourer.
I took it apart & cleaned it up before taking it to the closest bike shop (150 miles). I wanted them to repack the BB & the headset - remember I'm new to this - the BB was something I had no idea how to approach, & something about tearing the headset apart was also frightening. Because I'm also lazy, I took my rims in & had them repack those hubs too.
Now it's home & i can start doing what I'm comfortable with - putting the pieces together. I just ordered my tires & tubes. Guess it's time to remember how all those parts go back on! Wish me luck.

I found another Super Course on local CL for $20. Frame, good BB, headset, patched saddle, decent bars and brakes. The frame is solid, decent paint, decals need work. It's my second SC, a '78, my other is a '73, with Capella lugs. This one is a much better starting point. Any good tips for removing old decals without hurting the old paint? I don't see any rust anywhere, but apparantly the bike spent time in Arizona, which might explain that. 😀 I threw some spare wheels and crank on for photos, other photo is as bought.
My other SC has an indent on the chainstay for crank clearance. Thus one doesn't, and is close with the Campy crank that I have available. I have a Sugino AT triple on my other one.
I just set the crank on, not screwed down tight.

Polished and waxed the frame and fork on my latest project, 1990 Univega Nuovo Sport. Also test fitted a pair of cf wheels I have. If I figure out the upgrade to an 8-speed correctly, then they stay. Or I can always transfer the original 7-speed cassette with spacers.

Working on installing a 10 speed setup for my Bertoni Superlight. My husband got a kick out of my solution to a very stubborn fixed cup on the old bottom bracket. Hey - it worked! Thanks to a BF member for the SRAM Force 10 group.

Someone on here accidentally wiped ther decals off with acetone, might be worth a try for you.
