Diamondback Axis
I have a late 80's Diamondback Axis that I had acid dipped and powder-coated, then used as a single-speed (magic ratio) for a few years. How muck is the bike (built up currently as an 8-speed with a Surly steel fork) or frame worth without original paint, just a decent coat of forest green, no decals? I realize it's not that valuable, but $200 for complete bike with mostly new parts?

Need a picture and location. Not seeing $200 for an Axis here. Maybe your market is better.

Too bad the original paint is gone, they smoke paint schemes were cool. Old MTBs get little respect, everyone wants 28+speeds and suspension

The paint was hopeless when I got the frame. Procured it for the tubing which AIR was True Temper OX3. Great frame with exceptionally fine riding characteristics, but one of too many.

Without pictures it's a guess. Around here (San Diego), I'd figure $50-80 for the frame + fork, or $100-$150 for the whole bike. (Almost certainly much less than the sum of the parts. Seems like real money is only paid for original bikes, or really high end custom builds. If it's been repainted, and the parts are a jumble, stuff just seems to sit forever, even at very low prices.)

Even if built up nicely with a top end 8spd group and really nice wheels and tires. With a plain repaint and rigid fork conversion about $150 is all you will likely get in most markets. In my local market I see close to top end rigid MTB's from the 80's and 90's in great original condition sitting on CL and nothing seems to be moving if priced over much over $150.
