It appears to be stock except the tires. Suntour front and rear derailleurs, Suntour trigger shifters, DiaComp center pull cantilever brakes, Joytech hubs, Araya rims. Tires are Kenda 700x38c faux gumwall tires that are a close match to the original.

This is a recent build of a 1996 7900. Still being tweaked

New bike day. 1994 Trek 730, Forest Green with gold decals. Frame size 23 inch.




I haven't done anything to it yet except adjust the saddle, sand the brake pads and clean the brake tracks.

It needs some things.
- New tires and tubes. These could be original tires, which would make them 25 years old.
- Not sure about the rims. I need to measure thickness and wear.
- New chain.
- Longer stem and maybe new bars. I'm too upright, I want to stretch out more.
- Maybe a set back seatpost.
- Clean, lube, threadlock, anti-sieze.

But it's rideable now. The previous owner (who claimed he was the original owner but he seemed a bit young for that) had a clue and maintained it.

Yes, OCLV main tubes bonded to Aluminum Lugs and a full Aluminum seat and chain stays.

The bike in storage at the moment, but will post more pics when i get a chance.

Hi - I'm not to hip on the whole TREK Multi-Track lineup. Which model runs used the sloping top tube and the mid-fork blade eyelet mount? Were these features limited to certain model years? I also see a minimum of two bottle cage braze-ons with these frames. Maybe there is a third down below on some.

I'm not aware of any MultiTracks with a sloping top tube -- save for step-through frame models, and I think these were available most years on many of the models. The mid-fork rack mount was common on MultiTracks, especially the higher model numbers, but I don't know if this was a standard design feature on only some models. I'm not aware of any MultiTrack with three bottle cage mounts. I've only ever seen two total -- on the down tube and on the seat tube.

I believe the sloping top tube only appears on the smaller frame sizes. At least on the early models like my wife's 1996 730.

It might depend which decade you're talking about. Some of the newer aluminum ones from this century might be designed with a sloping top tube, but the older 1990s ones were like casanewt said.

Nice bike. How tall is your wife? Those cranks look looong. I'm 5' 4" and discovering that my knee issues are not being helped by too-long cranks.

She is 5'7". This bike may actually be a bit small for her. I think the picture of the crank arms is distorted a bit by the image of the black pedal as well.

Apparently I have a freehub now. A first for me, I've only ever touched freewheels before, that'll be fun. And a surprise because the 1994 catalog says freewheel. I can't quite make out the small print on the hub but it says Shimano Parallax and then something like FH AC-10. I could be wrong, I'm still figuring this out.

(Not me in the video. Obviously.)

I had a 1994 750 and as I recall it had a freehub--I think Shimano was using those terms interchangeably in the catalog that year because I also recall being slightly confused for a minute.

Parallax hubs were in pretty good shape after 20 years. The Matrix rims are notoriously tight and my experience was no different. Built like tanks though.

Hello i don't recall seeing a mid fork mount after 1994 or maybe 95. When the higher models of MT stopped being a clone with the 520, the last year i believe 1993, the mid fork mount disappeared. That being said and Trek being Trek any left over forks could have been used on 94 or 95 model years.

I think 1993 was the last year the MultiTracks were based on the touring frames, but the mid-mount forks continued for a good number of years after that. My 1997 model 750 has a mid-mount fork. And it appears that it was only the 750 to have it, at least as late as 1997. The 1997 catalog, available on VintageTrek.com, lists "System 1 hybrid Cro-Moly fork w/ rack mounts" as an upgrade on the 750 over the 730. In comparison, the 730's fork is listed as "Full Cro-Moly". I imagine this may have varied over the years -- the 730 seemed to come and go as closer in spec to either the 750 or the 720, depending on model year.

Thanks for the info, i thought it was a random fork stuck on later (up to 1995) models. Do you have one of the purple beauties 750 listed in the catalog? My heart will stop if it is a 23"

It seems these bikes routinely get the passover. I recall one sitting around at $100 for months. I think it was a 750 model in nice condition, original owner. I was going to buy it for my sister as a "surprise" (she doesn't ride; hasn't for 30 years) in the hopes she'd ride it. I think the multitrack is akin to the antelope series; tonnes of them around, ubiquitous with no perceived "cache". I see that the multitracks do come in a variety of sloping top-tube frames.

Here's a couple of locals. One looks sunbaked which means stuck Seatpost / BB / Stem territory.
