light quick mount pedals?

Hey guys,

I'm eyeballing some quick mount pedals, such as from wellgo or MKS for example.
The only restriction is, I'd like to be able to mount toe clips.

So the question is, which ones are the lightest?
There are so many models out there, and for many models, a lot of different weights are stated with each seller.

Anyone got some 1st hand weights and knows what's the lightest model?

thx!

p.s. there's no general parts board here, so I siomply posted in the bike board where I'd like to use them on..

Well, I am afraid this response is unhelpful since you are trying to nail down pedal weights.

I weighed a MKS Compact Ezy Removable Pedal and came up with a weight of less than half of the published weight. How could that be? I thought I might have a few grams more because I have reflectors on mine. Then I realized that the published weight would include the cylindrical attachment mechanism. My attachment cylinder is naturally attached to my bike and I am not inclined to take it off to weigh it.

I also have a set of MKS AR2 Ezy Pedals. An additional impediment to weighing one of these, is that I have toe-clips mounted to these pedals.

For what it's worth, I like both sets of my MKS pedals. I will install the platform set or toe-clip set depending on the nature of the ride I am going on.

I've got the MKS Compact Ezy and they work fine on the Brompton - the total weight includes the pedals and the adaptors.

If you want to save even more weight, Brompfication.com offers an MKS Compact Ezy lookalike (in shape, not in color) without the adaptor - 155g vs the Compact Ezy's 302g.

Platform Pedal - Brompfication

MIKASHIMA INDUSTRIAL CO.,LTD.-Catalog

Obviously, if you're not going to take out the pedals regularly, the Brompfication might make sense, not that they are cheap - 95 Euros or US$114. Almost the same price as the MKS, which is a much heralded brand and the QR pedals offer much more flexibility.

Me, I plan to buy the Brompfication pair, put one each on the right side of my two Bromptons and use the MKS as a removable left side.

EDIT: Sorry, I forgot the part where you wanted toe clips

I'm really looking for the lightest quick mount pedals - there are plenty of light non quick mount ones out there.
@Sparkybacon
maybe you weighrd just one pedal vs the given weight was for the pair?
Give us some numbers so we could get an idea...

Hmmm... I just put SPD pedals on my folding bike which seemed to work reasonably well on it. But, I haven't put many miles on the bike yet.

I hated the stock folding pedals, too much flex.

Looking at the Quick Mount pedals, the MKS EZY looks like a pretty sweet system with interchangeable platforms.

Here are the numbers I'm seeing:

MKS EZY SUPERIOR Urban Platform Single sided toeclip platform: 368g or 374g
MKS EZY MM-Cube (SPD Style Cleats) 415g
MKS EZY SUPERIOR US-B (SPD Style Cleats) 474g
MKS EZY MT-E (platform, cage type), 370g
MKS EZY AR-2 (platform, cage type) 340g
MKS EZY Promenade (platform) 351g
MKS EZY Urban Step In (Platform / clipless dual pedal) 461g
MKS EZY Compact 302g

Hmmm, I like the interchangeable design. I might even consider it for my road bike.
However, it appears as if the EZY & EZY Superior are not cross compatible.

Anyone got some more affordable alternatives?
Wellgo, xpedo, trverse, sars, tioga, c-force are all out there and also come close to the 300g but are considerably cheaper.
The only thing is that as said, there are many different weights given for identical models depending on where to look...

The exotic Titanium axles, etc., to make a pedal weigh significantly Less , makes it Cost More ..

So, pick 1 _ cost or weight , only 1 can be made lower at the expense of raising the Other ..

Hmmm... if one wants the lightest option a pair of custom milled titanium pedals could be commissioned. But later in this thread the issue of cost came up. Best bang for the buck in reducing "pedal" weight may be getting lighter weight shoes and thinner socks, or perhaps forgo the socks altogether. But perhaps the OP has already done this.

It might also be useful to compare the weight of power grip straps vs toe clips. Again custom may result in the lowest weight and in this case could be quite affordable. How about fabricating your own "Power Grip" straps from a Tyvek envelope?

Bottom line, the best solution that I can think of is to purchase a pair of titanium axles (as referenced by fietsbob) and mount a smooth carbon fiber platform on each (holes could be drilled in the platform for further weight reduction and perhaps better grip). With a tyvek toe-hood the pedals should be extremely light, affordable, offer the ability to provide power throughout the stroke and comfortable enough to be used without wearing shoes or socks. Now we're talking weight savings...

Sure, the MKS with titanium axles are pretty sweet, but yes, quite too expensive regarding g/$ ratio.
As said, quick mount pedals around 30$ are about 300-320g, so it's actually more 150$ for 100g savings!
btw. non quick mount Ti axles start from 40$, so those pedals are double-overpriced!

The problem is that the weight differences between models and info with different sellers seems indifferent somehow, so I'm looking for more exact weights
Probably also alwas a question if weighed with the quick mount adapter...
To give you an example:

Wellgo QRD R119 -> 320?
Wellgo M079 QRD -> 310?
Wellgo QRD 232 -> 262g hard to believe!
Wellgo QRD M111 -> 316g true?
Wellgo QRD WR1 -> 300g confirmed w scale pic

Does anyone have more precise and confirmed info, maybe also about other models?
Thor is mentioning his page - what's the link?

thx

OK. Since we're now talking about differences of a couple ounces, I'll ask: why? How come pedal weight is such a priority?

The question is about how much we are talking since most models don't have reliable weight confirmations.
I am about to buy new ones, so why not make sure to buy a nice pair and ask around?

I was about to pull the trigger on some Titanium pedal spindles when I ran into this.

XTR Pedal Ti Axles- Mtbr.com

Now, it is possible he never had it adjusted quite right, or that there are several different types and quality of pedal spindles.

I haven't seen a lot of other notes about fast titanium spindle wear, but I decided it wasn't worth spending lots of bucks for no appreciable weight savings.

Ideally quality spindles would be made like aluminum hubs with hardened bearing races press fit.

Ti spindles that are for cartridge bearings would be fine.
