The Water Cooler, Scuttlebutt, Chit Chat Thread

Years ago bikeforums didn't have the names of the subforums in their URLs, they had numbers. We kept the 33 because we're cool af. "The 41 refugee thread" refers to the road cycling forum, which this racing forum used to live under. There was a lot more interaction between the 41 and the 33 back then...

There are four options of chamois.
We ordered what would basically the top-of-the-line, super comfy chamois. They sent the ultra-lightweight one, that is a barely a step above a tri-chamois. The one they sent is also considered an upgrade, but it's not the direction we wanted.

Just finding out there was a decent sized (inbounds) avalanche where I ski last weekend. This must have happened about 30 minutes or so before I got there. This particular run was "closed" but if you hiked up to it, it should be all free. Loose snow over hard pack (and ice) from the whole ****ty season is no big surprise, but still. We take for granted that inbounds is "safe."
I should buy an avy beacon.

Avy beacons are great, so long as the people you ski with (and patrol of course), know how to use them. I spent over 20 years in the ski industry and it's surprising how sometimes inbound avalanches will occur. Obviously the larger resorts have so much control and blasting to do. Couple that with lots of silly people who don't follow closure signs, ropes, etc. putting themselves into danger either before or while control can be done. It's pretty wild.

I don't know much besides watching some youtube videos and having friends that exclusively ski in the backcountry. My skiing ability has improved pretty drastically this year. At some point I know I'm not going to want to pay for a pass anymore and I'll take up hiking and earning my turns. But for now I'm going to enjoy the laps and be safe, no matter the conditions.

Strava reveals military information
I used the heat maps to look for houses near routes and find new routes and stuff, but I never thought to use it to track enemy movements and locations. I guess that's why I'm not a spy.

Shoot, when I was in Afghanistan, a major was disciplined for taking pictures of his remote FOB (forward operating base) from a helicopter and posting them to Facebook. The pictures clearly showed where all the facilities and infrastructure were.

At work today:
Me, to T: "Thanks for doing that. You and J are really good to work with, very diligent."
T: "Thanks."
Pause
T: "What's 'diligent' mean?"
T is one of my favorite coworkers to be sure. Very hard working, no nonsense, you get what you see. He's so deadpan that when he actually cracks a joke it's hilarious. That conversation above was not joking.

And as a follow up to my post about our kit issues, the manufacturer has asked us to send the incorrect bibs back so they can replace the chamois. Supposedly they have experience pulling the stitching on the existing chamois and sewing in a new one. I'm not terribly convinced this is a good idea, but I'm not one of the people who purchased these bibs. We will see how this goes.

I really hope my new kits gets here in the next week or so. Need to get a ride or two in with them before racing!

Eventually I have to stop working tonight, so that I can get to bed so that I can get up and go to work.
Seems like there's something wrong with that.

I typically work noon to 8 ish cuz I like riding bikes in daylight and practicing drums when it won't annoy ppl. Plus I'm more of a night owl so I get my best work done around the time most ppl go home.

A team in Seattle had some sort of kit issue a few years ago with castelli. They got to keep the misprints and got new ones shipped out. My collegiate teammate that was on this team was so stoked on getting double his order of bibs to train in.
I really hope my new kits gets here in the next week or so. Need to get a ride or two in with them before racing!

I'm typically 9 or 9:30 till 6 or 7. I'm a 45-50 hrs/week kinda guy. Exempt from overtime so I get the same paycheck every month but I'm motivated and they give me good raises and bonuses so it's worth it.
