Hello to all forum members from a newbie in Germany!! Can anyone tell me what the difference is, if any, in a Chin Haur bottom bracket CH52E and CH52R ???
Long one short, my old one is a 52E (127mm BC 1.37 x 24T) and i ordered the same size. The new one however is CH 52R, which has a narrower body and the drive side thread is slightly different looking. I´ve had everything back together but it´s not right!!
If anyone has any info on this i´d be very grateful to hear it,

Considering Chin Haur's reputation, maybe cut your losses and buy a low spec Shimano -- cheap & durable.

Just GUESSING: I suspect the E is for an E mount front derailleur and the R is for no FD or a regular seat post mount FD.

Thanks for your time. I think that´s what i´ll do, and i´ll go to my local bike shop for it and not gamble on getting the right part off ebay!. I´ll probably pay more but i´ll get to ask questions and do some comparing with the original part.

Even the Shimano UN-26 should be a step above, quality wise.
IF you have a "good" bike, you may even want the UN-55.

ANY non-grupo Shimano will be a huge step up in quality, durability, etc. Even a $5 BB-LP20 lasts thousands of miles.

There are many reports of Chin Huar spindles breaking -- the worst possible failure. Even crappy mainland ChiCom no-namo BBs that eat bearings in 100 miles don't break spindles.

Well, I went to my nearest bike shop yesterday. It´s a franchise member of the ZEG group here in Germany. They were closed for lunch! So i thought i´d try again this morning. Got there just after the opening time of 09:00 (as shown on google) and was confronted with lights out and a sign on the door saying they´ve gone on a two weeks holiday!! Seems the internet isn´t hurting his business!!

Does replacing a CH BB with a good quality Shimano equivalent help with other aspects beyond reliability, ie pedaling efficiency?

To the OP the UN55 are typically $5 more than the UN26. Just make sure you get the right spindle length.

I´ve had a couple of Chin Haur BB´s in the past, usually only found out on removing them, and haven´t had any real problems with them, until they´re worn out but that´s the same with anything i suppose. I have to say i´m a bit wary of entry level Shimano parts.

I replaced a CH BB on my hybrid after it got chunky. Quite a few miles but not that many thousand. I have yet to replace a Shimano UN 54, 55, or 105 external after many miles.
