Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What say thread? Decided to make this old bike I've had lying around this season's primary ride. (if the picture has red ano skewers, I've already swapped them out for some 6600 skewers for the time being).

Oh, and it's a Trek. And a stock Trek at that.

Its a Trek. To make it warm staging will need to be at Hugh Hefners place.

For 1, the majority of treks are ugly to A LOT of people.

BUT specifically:
-Bike is turned on the wrong side for a submission in this thread
-Chain on small front chainring
-Crank arms not staged
-Too much white
-Colored tires generally look stupid (your bike, case and point)
-bars tilted up to much
-Tall spacer stack
-Stubby stem
-Stem angle has too much degree
-Wheels are to be staged with stems at bottom center

We look for bikes to be properly staged to help show off every part of the bike. They aren't a "must", but having the bike staged properly is just more pleasing to look at.

Some of the "rules" are not what makes your bike a Not (To me), such as wheels staged, crank arms at bottom center...etc.. Your bike is simply not aesthetically pleasing to look at. It isn't UGLY by any means, but its not a bike I would stop to look at (with admiration anyway). IF I were to change some things to make this bike hot (again, for me) I would stop trying to throw in too much white. Sometimes (most the time) less is more and less is more appealing.

Black pedals
Black tires
Black saddle
Black bar tape
Rotate bars down

For vanity purposes, flip stem and drop 20mm of the spacer stack

So I ended up slamming my stem and I actually find it much more comfortable than it was before. I picked up a Thomson X2 stem and was debating on replacing my 3T Arx Pro. (for reference, here is my original submission: https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...=#post15818084)

And yes, I am aware that the spacers aren't correct with the Thomson stem and the fork is going to be chopped in the near future.

Thomson is a 10 degree stem and 3T a 6 degree....I'm thinking the Thomson looks a little nicer since it's level but the 3T matches the color scheme. What do you guys think?

Also, thoughts on the dustcap? Too big or acceptable?

For some reason, I took a pic a couple hours before the crit that evening.

Then I raced that night. Sorry, not the greatest, but it's all I could get from them.

Not sure, but I'm guessing it was a chainring that did the saddle.

Back together.

Thanks. No frame damage at all. Wheels needed to be trued, and a little road rash on the shifters. Saddle, hoods, bars, and rear derailleur were replaced.
