Need a wheelset recommendation for Trek Domane
I have a 2019 Trek Domane SL5 that I really like, but after swapping out the groupset and getting new wheels on my old 2005 Allez Elite, I have realized how heavy the Domane feels. They are about 1.5lbs apart in weight, but even before I fixed up the Allez Elite, I felt the Domane was a little heavy. Well, it IS a bit on the heavy side, and that's fine, but before I'm ready to decide that I just need a lighter bike, I'd like to move to something other than the stock wheels and tires(2100+ grams wheels, 32mm tires). I'm going to switch to 25mm Continental GP 5000's with tubes, but need a wheelset recommendation. I'm not racing, so nothing over about the $1500 mark. It seems the obvious choice is the Aeolus Pro 37's, but wanted to see if anyone has another strong opinion here. Thanks!!!

Those new Aeolus wheelsets do look pretty nice in terms of features and value - if you're not completely sold on tubeless and you're a Trek rider, to boot, they'd be at the pointy end of my list. (I was in a similar position a few months back and ended up with the Zipp 303S, but I've been running tubeless for years and was comfortable with the commitment to continue to do so.)

Those Bontrager wheels are pretty nice with a very nice warranty, but you could get slightly lighter wheels for less money. Light Bicycle has a very similar wheelset available, for about $400 less.

I opted for HED Belgium Plus rims with Chris King R45 hubs .... weight is approx 1639g .... these are bombproof with excellent hubs, are tubeless ready and have the same aerodynamics as Flo30
Bontrager Aeolus Pro 37 weigh 1505g

I got a set of the Aeolus Pro 3V for my Domane. They are decently light (1575g) and are nice and wide. I am loving them so far. The best part is I only paid 1050.00 for them new. Great value in my opinion.

I’ve had a set of non V 5s for a couple of years. I run then with tubes but they come with the tubeless stuff. Good wheels and look cool. They at 19mm inside width so a stretch for my old Madone. But with the Domane you won’t have any problems.

I'd consider the HED Jet 6/9+ combination from mybikeshop.com. 60mm front and 90 mm rear. Lighter than what you have and waaaaay more aero. I emphasize aero over than weight, but this set would be better in both regards.
Or a set of Flo carbon wheels. Use the code PODCAST for 20% off. I just ordered a set of their 64 mm / 77 mm for my wife's 2020 Domane SL5.

Just get some Fernwegs and put some Gatorskins on them. You'll be light, fast, great grip, and protected from flats. Done and done.

Fernwegs for a $1500 price point? This is like a troll with reading comprehension problems. As to the Gatorskin part, that's causing enough laughter over at the other thread. no need for duplication here.

I suspect he is deliberately trolling us. The earlier thread made me wonder - this has given it away.

I personally was thinking about going with the Zip 303 S on my Domane https://www.sram.com/en/zipp/models/wh-303-stld-a1

Thanks everyone! I'm going to go with the Aeolus Pro 37's, more out of convenience than anything because I can get them when I pick up my Domane from the shop, but also because their warranty is solid too. You all opened my eyes a bit to some of the options I hadn't considered though - those LIght Bicycle wheels look like a steal! I also considered those Zipp's, but they're less available. Should be quite a difference from what I understand - first carbon wheels!

Reynolds AR58x or AR41x. Lifetime warranty, good hubs.

I was late to the carbon wheel party, but I'm totally sold now.

SeattleRider57 Is your bike a disc or rim brake version?
I highly recommend going with a 25mm wide rim, like the Aeolus Pro 3Vs, if you're running disc brakes. If not, so sorry...
As mentioned already, you can get a much lighter, much less expensive, and extremely high quality wheelset with way better specs than the 3V from Light Bicycle... which I did. My LB WR50 wheels are considerably lighter than the Pro 3Vs that came on my 2020 Domane SL7 and are deeper (50mm vs 35mm): Dear Diary: My 2020 Trek Domane SL7 Must Go on a Diet

I have been riding the Aeolus Pro 37 this summer and they have been great for the money. I also have a set of LB WR38 and yes they are lighter and better in my opinion but more money for the specs I got.

I bought a set of Roval CL50’s for my Tcr. I can’t say enough good things about them, fast, light, and smooth. I bought them on black Friday when my lbs has 25% off so I paid 1250 for them.

A freshly greased 18t is very quiet, and a 54t with very little grease will be very loud.
