Hey MoAlpha I need a sailing consult.
A friend of mine has a sailboat but I believe has fairly limited experience. I know he has sailed some but I think just day trips in the Chesapeake and 20 years ago on some lake near Austin he even lost a catamaran in a storm.
Anyway he plans to sail from Baltimore to Canary Islands, either solo or with his adult son.
Is that reasonable? Seems kinda risky to this landlubber. He has a history of TBI and slightly impaired judgement, although it’s generally well compensated.

So I’m thinking of getting a direct drive trainer... trying to decide between an Elite Direto XR, Kickr, H3, or Kinetic R1 (I know it has crap reviews but love the rock n roll) any thoughts?

My H1 is great; until I killed the belt it was dead reliable and Saris support was good. The Kickr(1) I had was less good in basically all ways, including reliability, and they’ve had more issues since. Unless you want to use the rest of the Wahoo system I’d go with the H3, and a rocker plate separately if that’s important. The motion isn’t worth inaccuracy.

really digging the reconstituted bike but why didn't they put a horizontal stem instead of that upward angled abomination. Maybe I'll replace it with a horizontal crabon one. Prolly only cost about $50 and i'll save weight.

Reminds me: Riding Monday I saw an 84 Lumber truck. Not too surprising, as I was passing the 84 Lumber store. But this one had a Pennsylvania license plate. What are the odds?

I've never heard of 84 Pennsylvania. Is that near Pittsburgh?

People talk it up, but even the new version appears to be less reliable and accurate about delivering the training load to your legs, for a 40% price premium. That’d get you a premade rocker plate for the H3 (right now I just have mine on a squishy pad which lets it rock a little).

84 lumber is from 84 Pennsylvania so not surprising at all. 84 is South of Pittsburgh in Washington County, i believe. Been through there many a time BITD. #TheMoreYouKnow

Something has been pooping on my back deck. I think it’s a raccoon. A house behind me has a grape vine that they like. Before my trip I heard one in the yard directly behind mine a couple of nights.

A rocker plate would be a nice upgrade too. I looked into it, but have not done anything with it. Yet. Maybe this will be the year.

I have an original Direto that has been flawless and it took the place of my Kinetic R&R. Not going back. I had to return the first Direto as it failed to actually produce resistance after a week, but the replacement has been great. The Saris models are also highly rated, and honestly, I don't think the Neo is worth the money unless you are going to be using the hell out of it.
