Giro Synthe MIPS owners... what is this padding piece and where does it go?
Where does this padding piece go? It fell out of the box when I opened it lol.

Most helmet pads are secured with Velcro or similar hook and loop fasteners. They're designed to be removable for washing. The pads on both my Bell and POC helmets are currently drying over the tub after washing. They get pretty grungy from salty sweat in summer so I wash 'em at least once a week, sometimes more often. Ditto the straps.
On some helmets the hook part of the Velcro is pretty tiny, smaller than a dime, and may be difficult to see. The loop part is the flip side of the pad itself.
If the hook part of the Velcro is missing you can add your own. Any self-adhesive bit of Velcro tape will do.
On Bell and Giro helmets the MIPS system the pad is just for comfort, not a permanent bit of the MIPS system. The plastic harness with yellow flexible rubbery fasteners makes up the primary part of the MIPS system.

I've learned to wash my helmet straps after use to prevent the salt build up on the straps. I also run the shell and all under the shower (inside and out) after every ride.

With every new helmet purchase I order the replacement pads while you still can get them. This way I can wash a set and have the replacements ready immediately. I just rotate between the pair. I also order the fit system because those little plastic straps eventually break. It's about $25 for everything. And yes, I have broken these before and replaced them. Not that this has anything to do with the original question, as that was answered. Just useful information for some.

Btw I have two Synth helmets, very light, airy, and super comfortable. Built quality, like all Giro helmets, not so great.
