On the tandem, we love stretches with short, generally descending rollers because we can really mess with the singles. On my single, I love to ride in the mountains even though I'm not particularly good at it. I just love a multi-thousand foot climb with views.

Hills, rolling hills and especially with twisties.
Hills are great places to ride when it is a bit more windy than I would choose riding flats.

Hills are fun , but being a native born Flatlander, I have to admit I like long uninterrupted sections of flat pavement and a big sky.

Another ho-hum vote for rolling hills. Because I am slightly built, my power-to-weight ratio is better than my power-to-drag ratio. I do worst on flat land against a headwind or a side wind, best on a gentle to moderate climb.

I live in range of some pretty awesome mountains, but grew up and still go back to ride in a place with smaller bluffs, although frequently occurring. Climbing a mountain is a great accomplishment, and riding back down is a great thrill, but every time I start down, the work it took to get up is quickly negated. Sooner or later, you need to climb a mountain again. I'll take the bluffs.

The one thing I like about rolling hills is that they are easier than flat ground. On flat ground I gravitate to my LT and stay there - for hours sometimes. It can be agony anf my brain won't let me back off. In hills, I can't work much harder on the climbs than I would have on the flats; but even pedaling the downs gives me a rest.

I get the feeling that I wasn't the only one that missed the multiple choice option on this poll, glad it wasn't just my solo senior moment. Misery loves company.

You don't know the half of it. When I first set up the poll, I had 4 choices. Flat, Hilly, Mountainous, and a mix of all 3. And I had set it up to allow multiple choices. Doh!

I actually like mountainous but picked hilly as one person's hilly is another's mountainous. My preference is long sustained moderate climbs.
I just know I hate flats... too boring. Like you have to go fast 'cause it flat. I like the excuse to go slow so I can look at the scenary and generally hilly or mountains, scenary is better... which is why I tend to mountain bike than road ride. Nothing more beautiful than looking out across green hills towards snow covered mountain tops and cresting a wildflower covered singletrack...

you would like it in north Phoenx (kind of). the road north to northeast from home home has a 1-2% grade for 13 miles, then for the next 12 or so it varies from 3-6 %.

I was going to say rolling hills but, if I'm honest with myselt, I find myself seeking flatter rides of late.

Had it been me setting up the thread, I think I would have had flat, rolling, hilly, mountainous. To me, rolling means ups and downs of ~ about 50-100 feet. I don't like them because I'm always in the wrong gear. Hilly would be ups and downs of 100-1000 feet. Much more interesting than flat. Mountainous, > 1000 ft, I haven't really had the chance to try yet. So I guess I'll vote for hilly, even if that includes rolling! - Ed
