Trek Roscoe vs any 29 MTB
Considering Trek Roscoe or Specialized Rockhopper. Not sure about 27.5 + tires for long rides.Ive heard that the Roscoe is sluggish on the flats.I have had 2 Diamondbacks with 27.5 tires that I liked , but want something better.I’ll be using the bike mostly for mountain and trails. Not a lot of choices in my area.

It’s not made to be fast, it’s a trail bike. The X-Caliber is nearly the same frame with a more XC build, if you can try that.
if you mean there are not a lot of choices what to buy, remember there are a ton of mail order options now. Not just DB but Canyon, YT, Guerrilla Gravity, and so on

Just got the 2020 Rockhopper Comp 1x. I love it. It’s got a 1x9 drivetrain and is spec’d ok.

I have a Roscoe 8. The kid has a Procaliber. We are both happy with our choices. She races (and podiums). I do not. I got a bottom-rung Specialized and even with my limited skills, wanted to upgrade after a year. I like the air fork and 1x drivetrain. It’s a heck of a lot more fun to ride than my first choice in bike. I don’t really care how fast I go, and the plus tires give me confidence on the trails. No, I can’t keep up with the kid, but I doubt I’d be able to no matter what I was riding.

I looked at the Trek Roscoe but ended up going with the Giant Fathom 1, Fathom is much lighter has a dropper, 1 x11 Shimano SLX and 2.6" tires so not quite as large so you may want to take a look at one if you have a Giant dealer nearby.

It’s funny how fast the market moves. I love my B+ bike but I don’t think they’re going to be offered much longer. Plush and forgiving in model year 2016 was dissed as vague and bouncy in 2019. The tires in stock at the bike store are 29x2.5 ish.

My LBS carries Trek and Specialized. They recommended the Roscoe because the 27.5+ is a better handling setup. However, the frame is designed that if you wanted to switch out to a 29er, you can. My Roscoe 7 arrives in January.
