I have my BionX and its a blast. that being said, I have found myself riding in the highest gear the majority of the time and i often wish I had a few higher gears.

Is there any way i can increase the gears on my bike? I assume I can buy a new front gear set, but would that mean I have to replace the entire drive set?

Right now i have a 2015 Merida Big.Seven 500. I got a mountain bike because I wanted the durability and strength of the frame as well as the shocks to absorb the bumps. I also kind of want to see how it handles as an actual mountain bike.

Yup, I have the same issue. My bike just wasn't designed for what I'm doing and I'm almost always in top gear, and with the highest motor setting I can't really pedal fast enough to keep up. So I rarely use that setting.

If I remember right, the rear cassette on my Sojourn is a 12-34, but the smaller cassettes are 11-whatever. So check at your local bike shop, you may can drop down a tooth or two on that smallest gear, which is like a 1/12 difference. Doesn't sound like much, but that's a couple of MPH faster, possibly.

On regular road bikes, I've heard of people wearing out that smallest cog while the rest of the cassette is good, and I'm thinking on some of them, you can replace the smallest cog by itself- ask about that when inquiring.

Getting a bigger front gear 52 or 54 is the way to go IMO... I hope I got the numbers right.

Agree with 350; your big front ring is probably had 44 teeth; increasing to 52 or 54 will provide almost 20% higher gearing as long as there is enough clearance from the chainstay for the ring.

I agree with 2old &350htrr ,,, Ive just changed my 39T to a 46T today and best thing I ever did .

sounds as if your legs are strong enough to operate the bicycle at its maximum settings without any mechanical assistance.

maybe its time to go full human powered.
