I'm trying to think of what the chances of this happening are.

About five or six years ago a bay area racer (sorry, I forgot his name) was killed by a falliing tree in Los Altos Hills.

There have been a rash of trees falling on people around here.

Maybe the trees are pissed off at us.

Off-thread:

Really tongue-in-cheek, or philosophical, isn't he: "If the tree had failed on a Sunday morning without bike riders, would it even get reported?” = "If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?"

Wonder why the media felt it was important to point out the rider was an attorney?
Just struck me as funny.

I liked seeing my family doctor interviewed for the PD story. He is a sports medicine specialist and works most of the triathalons in this area. I picked him to have a doc who would not just tell me to get off the bike whenever something happened to me.

You'll be seeing a lot more tree falls for a while as the Sudden Oak Death fungus kills off the prone trees. Not just oaks either.

Yeah, I was there, it was during the bike part of the Vineman 70.3 triathlon...By the time I got to the spot, firefighters were routing people around...
