PSA of the week: I heard a tinkling on my trike a few weeks ago and looked for the cause all over the place, couldn't find it and then the noise stopped. A few days go by and the tinkling starts up again and like before, stopped after 30 miles or so.
Fast forward to yesterday and the tinkling starts up again. Grrr...
A few miles down the road and I try to shift to the big ring (SRAM eTap) and the chain jams between the rings. I roll to a stop, cursing SRAM and all of the SRAM Red engineers, when I notice the little ring is bent. I had lost not one, but three chainring bolts.
Evidently, the tinkling I was hearing was each bolt loosening and then falling out. Luckily, I have a spare small Red ring and bolts, but dang, what an idiot.

I always check chainring bolts first when I have a creak. So far it's never been the culprit. But it's always a suspect.

I tell you, I was surprised when I found a couple of loose ones and supremely satisfied the next morning when the crinkle-tinkle went away. Strangely, it was only the small ring that complained and only within a certain range of load. Go know.

In other cycling news, I think I qualify for the @Velo Vol hydration badge. 1:12 rolling time in the desert with no hydration whatsoever.
Dihydrogen monoxide is way too heavy and non-aero anyways.
The buzzards were circling towards the end but I didn't let 'em get me.

Technically, however, each gm of glycogen you metabolize yields 3-4 of water So you are drinking, you just don't know it.
What do y'all like to breath on a long ride?

I knew a guy on one of the Eastern Bloc national teams before the wall came down and he said that they were often sent out on 100 mile rides with no water or food and they had a coach in a follow car to make sure they didn't cheat.
They were "training" their bodies to go without.

Busy time of year for Mrs. T and me. We've had two visitation/funerals this week, meeting a rarely seen nephew for lunch today who happens to be in the area, and a graduation party, tonight. Then, it's time to pack for an Alaskan cruise. Add in the rain showers every day and finding time to ride and mow the yards is getting tough.
Still, I've ridden with Mrs.T a few times this week on our trikes. She's still too scared of falling to remount her upright.
Do hope to squeeze a ride in with Gianni this morning before our lunch date, then get the lawns mowed before the predicted rain arrives this afternoon and I have to go to a graduation party. Dang, retirement is hard.

Irrespective, it's so nice to read about Mrs T, and I do understand her concern about riding the upright. We don't have a trike, but the rides I do at the moment are in what are intended to be low traffic situations with reasonably careful drivers.
Hope the cruises goes well for you both. We've seen cruise ships going up and down the straight between Vancouver Island and the mainland very regularly with some headed up to and back from Alaska.

Throw in breast cancer between the two accidents and it's no wonder her mental state is fragile.
BTW, I feel that she's actually handling things better than most would. I don't want to give the impression that she's struggling mentally or that her fears are irrational because she's a pretty well-founded and strong person. She'd just rather not go through this stuff, again. She is 68 so she could probably slow down a little.

I know it sounds a bit odd, but it doesn't look like she suffered a head injury which would have much deeper ramifications. Geez, the breast cancer would have been enough. But what you have said in this post, plus that picture of her on the trike, really makes her a hugely admirable survivor.

Yes, me, too. I was beginning to worry that she might be going down a mental rabbit hole with all of her injuries and stuff. In fact, she's off to OT again in a few minutes.
Trike riding isn't really her thing but she's decided that she needs to do something if she can't ride her upright.

I was driving in traffic all going about 70 mph. The car in front of me was maybe 15 to 20 car lengths ahead of me. The car had two bikes on a bike rack. One of the bikes fell off the rack right in front of me. The bike bounced in my lane, then bounced in the lane to my right, then onto the guard rail on the right. The guy who dropped the bike kept on going, no brake lights, nothing. I could not catch him, he was going a little over 70, and traffic was in the way. I also realized that to catch him I had to be behind him, while there was still one bike on the rack. Hope it was fastened on somehow. I thought about calling the cops but he was a long way away by then.
