Here's a shot from my ride yesterday. We rode to the top of Mount Diablo (the peak in the background with the shiny dome atop it) and back to the bottom three times in a row.

Never even gave much thought to taking "bicycle pictures" before joining this forum, but I did just dig out my old Schwinn from the barn today and oiled it up a little. Went through it a little setting it up to ride today. I don't know who rode it last but the seat and post were laying on the ground clear at the other end of the barn...
Still made a little trip up a local bike trail this afternoon on it, Milwaukee bike/walking trail. Rode 16 miles.

My first time, I've read around about it for sure, and so many people say "Ride Diablo 3 times", as if everyone riding it lives in the bay area!
I live at 6200' in Idaho so altitude won't have much affect on me on ride day, but I am in NYC right now though, so I'll only have 9-10 days to acclimate to higher altitude, but that will be a big help.
Are you riding it on a C&V bike?
Have you ridden it before?

I figured, I'll be there too!

The keys to this ride are; 1) eating enough carbs to avoid bonking (I burned 7,000 calories last year); 2) drinking enough including electrolytes to avoid cramping, and; 3) time management so as not go so slow that you miss any cutoff times or pushing too hard early and burning out on the last pass. I started at 3:15 am last year and will probably do similar this year. Your jet lag should help out with an early start time. Be aware that the rest stops have limited nutrition choices so be sure to check the literature to see what they provide and then carry your own stuff to supplement.
What will you be riding?
