Mojo lost, weight gained....

Looking for some advice....

About 10 months ago, I came off my bike - didnt seem too serious at the time. Came down on my right knee. Got back up, finished ride. After about an hour of being home, my knee swelled up and I couldnt bend it. Turns out I had really gave it a severe bang and torn some muscle.

Fast forward....

After having been pretty much inactive - did a few rides, nothing serious - I am finding it so difficult to get back in to it. Because of this I have gained 3 stone!!!!!! Now, going out on bike is a huge effort and I am just not enjoying it.

A couple of weeks ago, I did a 62 mile ride with my buddy. It was great. But, did not go out agn until yeasterday morning. Dragged myself out, only managed 5 mile and felt like I was cycling through water with a headwind!!!

Do I just need to go back to basics? Short easier rides to begin with....build up again???

Als, trying to get my diet under control....which is hard!

Cheers guys....

62 miles? That's a bit ambitious for a comeback ride. Sounds like you may have overdone it.

When I quit riding and started up again after a multi-year layoff, I had a 2 mile loop I used to do, took me about 10 minutes. Easy peasy. Eventually I'd do two circuits, then I'd start slowly tacking on more and more miles each ride. Takes me a while to rebuild my endurance.

I had a similar issue back in 1991, yes, I'm old... I was 200+ miles per week, and then my appendix and I had a divorce. And I never really had the fire I'd had before. 100 a week became a struggle. My commute was 12 miles roundtrip, and that just wasn't fun for a while. Ultimately, I changed my focus. I wasn't racing anyway, and found a slower crowd. After a few weeks that helped a bunch.

I hope I helped a bit. Good luck.

I'm back to riding again. I've lost 120 pounds, still losing. 8 years ago I crashed on a bike, breaking my back and other injuries. So I'm lucky to be walking, much less anything else. Maybe I'm too dumb to stay down! I'm looking forward to some 25 mile rides, maybe some 50s. Perhaps next year, a metric century. But right now I just struggle anything over 20...

Thanks guys....

Opened up to my cycling buddies. Told them the truth...basicall its a mood thing. Feel low.....

Anyway, they were brilliant. Going to help me get back in the saddle.

Isnt the cycling community a great place to be?
