Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

You know they make the GTI with 4 doors, right?

I'm always amazed by the space in those, even the Prime has a decent cargo capacity.

When the Dodge had its water pump issue, Mrs. GJ started talking about new cars. I said, "You're finally going to replace the 23 year old Sienna?" No, that's not what she meant.

If I lived closer to Indy, I likely would have motored over to the Speedway. It sounds like it was quite a party there today.

I did not! I assume it's still kinda small and hard to get kids in and out of there? Worth considering when the Prius finally bites the dust (hopefully not for some while).

For a brief time, when The Older Boy was just new, we ONLY had 2-door cars. But we were young (33) and flexible so that getting him in and out of the car was no big deal. A few months later (while he was still Baby In Bucket), we got a 4-door Passat, and that was WAY easier! We kept the Passat for 10 years, by which time it was up to The Boys to get themselves in and out of the car.

I've seen multiple reviews of the GTI and R, and much as I loved my old, 1986 GTI (with all of 109 hp!), I am VERY put off by the knobless, buttonless infotainment center, which strikes me as a Really Bad Idea. Drivers are distracted enough as is. To have to go through menus to change the temp, or turn down the music? Are they nuts? Didn't they do any road testing?

It’s sort of like my joke about pregnant women a couple months ago that didn’t go over very well 🫣, most guys aren’t really serious about a kick in the nuts being a comparable pain to childbirth, it’s just fun to try to poke the bear. My favorite is the comparison to shaving every day. It’s just ludicrous, but the fun is all in trying to poke the bear.

The Weather Channel had cameras there, along with several other places. It was pretty cool to see the people react when the lights went out.
